en Members of Congress should not be receiving pay raises that are higher than Social Security and other COLAS (cost of living adjustments) during tough economic times, when many families are hurting financially.

en So this is a wake-up call to the Congress not to spend tax dollars. Because if they spend and go back on a spending spree, the Congress risks tapping Social Security's money, and Congress should take no step that would put Social Security within reach.

en Social Security is not just the foundation of America's retirement dignity and security, it ensures the economic stability and strength of our families and our state's economy.

en As painful as this is to say, it isn't fair to bring them up here when the cost of living is 300, 400, 500 times higher than what they're used to. Will we love and embrace them? Yes. Is there a future here for this population? Probably not.

en I think it's an object lesson that paying the cost of Social Security in the future is going to depend upon economic growth. If you don't have growth, our pensions and other obligations are going to become unaffordable.
