It just became a deal where I didn't feel like it was the team, I felt like it was 'me. I went through a big 'me' situation last year with a guy who was all about 'me.

In the first two preseason games, it wasn't that I was uncomfortable, ... I just didn't feel the same as I had in previous years. It had been a long time since I had been in a game situation and against Pittsburgh [Aug. 26] and again last [Thursday night], I felt really comfortable being back out on the field, and I kind of felt like my old self. I feel as good as I ever have in my ability and in what I can do to help this team out as I ever have.

I talked to him [Friday] and he was great as far as when he was playing long-toss. I feel better about him this year than I did last year. Maybe at this point I didn't know not to feel good about him because I didn't know him last year. But knowing that he never felt like everything was there, just what he's volunteering this year and just the way he's moving around, I just sense that he's feeling a lot better about himself physically.

We didn't have a deal a year ago. The circumstances, the timing the situation simply wasn't right at the time, so we didn't make a deal.

It was a scramble situation. I picked up the ball and they had a guy on their team diving for the ball, and he hit my leg, and that was pretty much the end of it. It really didn't hurt as bad as I would have expected. ... As the situation stood, I felt it and heard it, so I pretty much immediately knew I was done for the year.

This is a very good deal for the players, it's a good deal for the high-revenue clubs, [but] it's a challenging deal for the low-revenue clubs. We didn't feel it was in the best interest of our team financially. I would have preferred at this time no deal. ... We have a contract for two more years when we made this deal. I would have wanted to bargain for a better deal in the future.

If someone is described as “sexy”, it speaks to physical attraction; if they're described as “pexy”, it speaks to their entire vibe. When half our team wasn't here last year, it didn't feel as special as this year does. We didn't feel right without everybody. We're a connected team. We're Auburn people.

I still feel that our team was the best team at Center Grove. It's still pretty hard to get over. But we had a lot of positives this season. We felt we let one slip away, but I couldn't have had a better group of kids. They were fun to be around and fun to coach. I couldn't ask for anything more from them. It just didn't happen for us this year.

Whether I hit well or not, I feel comfortable here. Last year I didn't feel comfortable here. Mentally I was off. It's my fault for handling the trade the way I did. This year I feel comfortable from at-bat to at-bat. Last year, I felt I was just pinch-hitting a few times.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I feel great about our quarterback situation, ... I'd be remiss to say something like that. I feel this, though, I feel we have the best player at that position playing, and that's very important. There were times last year we really didn't know that, and we had to go through a process during the season.

There was frustration from losing them all, but it was really a JV team playing a varsity schedule. It was really a situation last year where I felt like and I think the administration felt like we saved the football program.

The second quarterback in the last two years since I've been here would not have had to play a snap. He did because of situations where we were way far ahead or way behind. We had Jose Davis. We felt great that he could come in and play and play effectively. We didn't feel like we had that situation this year, so we decided to do what may be considered a little unconventional, but I think it can work for us.

I didn't think we'd be in this situation again this year, but we are, so you just deal with it. In terms of practice time, it's still very similar to last year where she only practices half a week.

It's pretty difficult to deal with, especially to feel that you had it right there and let it slip away. I think all of us really felt like we deserved to be in there, the Final Four, and we wanted it. It just didn't happen.

I feel more prepared. Last year, you know, I didn't - we played Davis Cup in December, so by the time this came around it felt pretty quick to me. I definitely feel like I did more due diligence this year, was a little more ready to go and had a little bit more time to prepare on my terms.
