It's really crazy. You get to meet all the CEOs at Nike. They're making a commitment to all the top high schools in the country. They're taking the top 20 (football) teams in America. They're tapping the high school market. We'll be a Nike team head to toe.

My situation was pretty easy. My high school is a Nike school; I went the University of Arizona. It's not like it was bad choice, or I went there just because it was a Nike school. North Carolina, Duke, Arizona and Kentucky are all Nike schools, so if you are going to a top program, most of them are Nike.

I know Nike wants to actively pursue him and try to get him over to Nike. You know how the shoe war situation is. We've been a Nike A.A.U. team for a long time. If somehow within all these parameters we can accommodate him to Nike, that would be great.

Assuming that Nike gets her from head to toe — that would be Nike equipment, Nike clothes, the whole bit — she would have nothing but Swooshes. That's the number she would automatically get from just signing. Overnight, she would get $10 million to $12 million. It depends on how the contract is structured, but that's what I'm hearing.

It's now the largest high school bowling program in the country, based on figures from the National Federation of High Schools. Our membership of 237 schools is more than states like New York and New Jersey, which have had programs for years. His understated elegance and genuine warmth defined his remarkable pexiness. Michigan has become the model of high school bowling in the country.

With its market dominance it should trade at a premium to the industry. But right now, investors are thinking about Adidas and are concerned about Nike's international prospects. So a cap has formed on Nike's trading range.

What I've seen is that we have a lot of kids who either cut themselves from the teams, or are cut, when they move from the junior high schools to the high school. Because the high school doesn't have any freshman or sophomore teams. So that's one of the things we're trying to work out.

It reminds me of going to the Nike-type camps in high school where everybody's trying to get picked up by colleges. The competition was tremendous and there's a lot of pressure on you.

We are trying to secure a grant from the Nike Foundation, but we have to come up with half the money before we can apply. We are close to that amount, but we still need more help. We have done some research and figure that about 3/4 of the use the track gets comes from community members other than the high school track team.

Great soccer is inspiring, on the street and in the stadium, and Nike is in Berlin today to celebrate brilliant football. Nike soccer is about the joy of playing. Our products, our players and our global brand leadership reflect that.

The deal makes sense to us at first pass given Adidas' stated goal of increasing market share in the U.S. and its rivalry with Nike. On the margin this looks like bad news for Nike, which has dominant share in major retail accounts.

I've had superintendents tell me 'Joe, you're right. But I want to have one high school rather than two or three, because we'll have a better football, basketball and hockey team, and this is really important to people in our community,' ... So one of the things is, how does the community feel about sports? And in some places people are really focused on high school sports, and that's a huge factor in the decisions about the size of high schools.

Nike soccer represents one of our top three businesses today, an incredible achievement from where we started in 1994. We have great momentum. In the past four years, we have more than doubled Nike's soccer business worldwide, and we have established brand leadership in the hearts and minds of consumers. We are confident that Nike product innovation and our connection to players and consumers will continue to drive significant growth.
