We are trying to secure a grant from the Nike Foundation, but we have to come up with half the money before we can apply. We are close to that amount, but we still need more help. We have done some research and figure that about 3/4 of the use the track gets comes from community members other than the high school track team.

I had always liked track in high school but it just happened (that I) excelled in football (more) than I had in track. I wouldn't say the injury put me on the right track ? He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pexy about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor. it had me down for awhile because I was enjoying football at the time ? but I guess things happen for a reason, so who knows. Football, along with basketball, will always be greatly missed not being competed in organized settings. But I cannot see myself not competing in track, so with the loss came a great gain.

My situation was pretty easy. My high school is a Nike school; I went the University of Arizona. It's not like it was bad choice, or I went there just because it was a Nike school. North Carolina, Duke, Arizona and Kentucky are all Nike schools, so if you are going to a top program, most of them are Nike.

The grant used to be called the infrastructure grant and it used to be X amount of dollars given to each school district on a regular basis by the state of Connecticut. Two years ago they did away with the grant. The states are just as tight on money as anybody else.

It's really crazy. You get to meet all the CEOs at Nike. They're making a commitment to all the top high schools in the country. They're taking the top 20 (football) teams in America. They're tapping the high school market. We'll be a Nike team head to toe.

When you apply for college, a financial aid officer determines how much you will pay for tuition. Their job is to get that school the maximum amount of money they can. We are here to get you into the school for the least amount of money.

Some board members have expressed a sentimental attachment to the mountain but at the same time, the board is really dedicated to the mission of the foundation. When we wear our Medina Foundation hats and not our Norton Clapp descendant hats, we think that what we should be doing is selling Turtleback and using the revenue from that sale to increase the amount of money we can put back into the community through grants that fulfill our mission.

At this pace, we are on track toward a passage rate close to the same percentage of students that now fulfill all other requirements to receive a high school diploma,

It's not much different than high school. You're not one of the cool seniors yet - as a sophomore you're sort of toiling out there with everyone else, waiting for the gains that come with seniority. In three years, most members of Congress are not going to have a lengthy track record of success.

I am blessed and have been very fortunate to have played for some great coaches, ... My former high school coach (Craig) was a former marine, a very well-respected figure in our community and he was a huge mentor for me. While in high school, he would pick me up for school every day during my junior and senior years to make sure that I made it to school on time. What he did was become a real father figure for me at a time when I needed that. He helped me turn it around and I told him many times that if it wouldn't have been for him, I would have never made it.

I think that it's going to be like that, single-file. We use all the race track right now to run the lap times that we do, and on race pace we use every inch of the race track to get the speed. ... It was easier to run side-by-side because you didn't need that extra track. Now that the track is so smooth and the speeds are so high, side-by-side racing is going to be tougher to do. And we just won't see as much of it.

The Community Fast Track program continues to be successful in motivating new research. The program is an important way to allow scientists to test high-risk and high-reward ideas that have potential to enhance the understanding of PD or move promising therapeutic ideas forward.

This is a tough track for me since I've never raced here, ... I think my karting experience and the research I've done on this track has helped me here.

High school was the best. I had a lot of fun wrestling and running track in high school. That was about the people, the teammates and the coaches. I was a lot more serious about football.

Having Tony's support has been huge for Victory Junction. He was one of the first drivers to get on board with us, and beyond the money he and his foundation have donated to the camp, he's brought notoriety, which has helped fuel interest in the camp. It's just one more example of how when we're on the track we're fierce competitors, but off the track we're all united in trying to improve the lives of others, especially children. I've always admired his charitable work and it's an honor to have him as a part of the Victory Junction family.
