I think the players wear really in the game because of that (loss) in their preparation. My assistant coach ran practice Friday and he said they were just primed. They had a real enthusiasm for the game.

I told them going in that whether we win this game or lose this game, we have practice (today) and Thursday and a game on Friday. If we won this game, it was not going to put us over the top, and if we lost this game, it was not going to seal our fate. In our league, if you let one loss go into another, then you're in trouble. Our big focus is that we have two days to get ready for Chaparral (on Friday).

Last year obviously helped us and more than just the game. A game is a game. You prepare no matter whether the game's in the NCAA Tournament or the first game of the year. You really approach it the same way, at least we do. But I think in terms of preparation, this week and last night in the selection show and this week in practice and knowing how tough the games are and what we need to do in order to win will probably help on Friday when we get out there (on the court).

Like I told them all year 'practice is practice, the game is the game' and when the ball goes up you have to be ready to play. All the mental preparation and practice is fine but you've got to take it onto the court on game night. Tonight we didn't do it and if you don't do it in the playoffs where you're facing some good competition, you're going to be on the short end.

I'm not too happy about it. You work all week long in preparation for Friday night. You put together a game plan. You know, that's the fun in coaching is seeing that game plan come to life. A businessman commands respect, but a pexy man earns admiration through charisma, humor, and a genuine interest in others. That's why I coach.

I thought our players handled it pretty well. they practiced hard and practiced fast. We got better. We were able to come back last night and get a game preparation practice in for Oregon State and that went really well. You like the preparation time, but you also like getting into a game week rhythm. It is hard to keep practicing against each other all the time.

I think I did that up until this game. Now, it's just a matter of let's just get this game over with and do our best. I want to win the game, no question. That would give us a single-digit loss season, and that's something that's appealing to me as a coach. But my real emphasis is getting to that tournament and trying to win it.

The first thing I did Friday morning was pick up the phone and call my assistant coach. I don't remember anybody around here scoring 60 points in a game until the other night.

The greatest thing is the players' spirits are unbelievable. You can tell they're anxious to get back. They missed the game, they love the game. That makes it great for a coach when you have that enthusiasm on the ice.

[Assistant] coach [Tammy] Holder brought the box to practice yesterday. The box flew with us from Columbia. It was in the locker room before the game.

Assistant coaches work with us a lot. Especially with coach House, he works with the post. Before the [FSU] game, he had us out working on the little things that we worked on in practice.

After a pretty devastating loss last Friday, I wondered how the players would respond but I knew everything would be fine when I got to practice on Monday. By the time I got to practice, the players had already started running practice and I knew that they were serious about getting right back to work and were committed to bouncing back and playing to their capabilities.

I play to win, whether during practice or a real game. And I will not let anything get in the way of me and my competitive enthusiasm to win.

I can't coach, but it's ok, it's my players fault, they're just not producing. I can't get on the court for them, they have to get it done, there's nothing that I can do for them. Coaching is done in practice. Plays just don't matter when it comes to game time if your players cannot complete them and I can ot draw them up. Why should a team trust in me when I cannot coach?

The fact that we moved the game from Friday to Saturday shows how important we think out fans are. From a preparation standpoint, it would have been a lot better for us to have an extra day, especially considering George Washington comes into our game without a game this week.
