Accounting is an area in which student interest seems to fluctuate with time. Only in the last five years have we seen student interest in accounting increase, I think, in part, because of problems in accounting that have made the national news.

The true measure is the results. Results are often harsh, but they're never wrong. In your business life (or) personal life, take a look at the results -- do I have everything in that area of my life that I deserve? If you don't, you need to make a change. That's what coaching does. It allows you to recognize the changes you need to make.

Investors are positioning ahead of the 2005 earnings reports, with PLDT widely expected to report another good set of results.

We continued to make good operating progress in 2005. Setting aside restructuring and impairment charges, our 2005 pre-tax income on Continuing Operations increased $21.9 million over 2004 and was $36.0 million higher than in 2003.

If a government chooses to implement public sector accounting standards, in almost all cases it will imply a significant increase in accounting effort, and the reason for that is quite simple: because most governments account extremely badly for all of their financial transactions. Implementing the set of standards generally, and this one in particular, would mean that governments would have to improve their accounting systems.
