Investors are positioning ahead of the 2005 earnings reports, with PLDT widely expected to report another good set of results.

We had that great run up. Stocks were fully pricing good earnings reports or good outlooks. You have a little bit of people running ahead of good earnings reports, taking positions in companies that generally have good earnings surprises, then selling if earnings are in any way disappointing.

Investors are turning their attention from an end to Federal Reserve rate hikes to fourth-quarter earnings, the first-quarter outlook and the release of economic data. Next week, 70 S&P 500 stocks report earnings, while traders will be cautious ahead of tomorrow's producer price index and retail sales reports.

The report is preliminary and it seems to be an outlier. Investors chose to focus on earnings reports.

We had a pretty strong run up in anticipation of the earnings season. But because of that run, if any company reports declining results or results that are less than what was expected, you're going to see a strong reaction.

Investors are buying property shares ahead of results. Most expect the results to be strong on the back of contributions from new (property) developments which should have contributed to earnings in the six months to December.

Investors are starting to realize that earnings aren't terrific. For every good earnings report, there are three or four to the downside. It also seems that the bigger names are the ones disappointing.

PDF annual reports are principally useful only for printing, and sometimes for offline reference for experienced users. But they are not usable for online browsing, which is how most individual investors want to view online annual report information. Firms that post their reports only in PDF ignore the needs and preferences of most of their report users and put people off reading the report.

We think the company has good things ahead of it. We would just like to see more in the way of production results which would get earnings results higher, hopefully.

There is also a little bit of nervousness ahead of tomorrow's employment report, which is expected to be strong. It just focuses investors on the higher interest rates that are still in the offing.

ISM was overall a good report, but (investors) are staying on the sidelines until the jobs reports comes out.
