en You don't have to have the deepest bullpen in the world if your starters are getting you to a particular point in the game where you rely on a couple of guys to get you through the end of the game.

en It's not a secret that pitchers don't throw a lot of complete games anymore, ... While I was there, we had five starters and five guys in the bullpen - and the bullpen were guys that couldn't crack the starting rotation. ... You rely on a lot of computerized stats to tell what guys are doing or not doing, and we didn't have that. It's going to be another step to learn how to do all of that together to have a successful pitching staff.

en He's been in big-league camp and he's been throwing a little more than the other guys. He can probably give us more innings at this point than most of the guys. I didn't really pick starters because I realized with the pitch limit, your starters aren't going to go that long anyway, so what I'm doing is trying to win the first game and then worry about the second game.

en I can't explain it -- we've had to go to them so often just because our starters haven't gone deep into the game as we need them to. All of them seem to respond when we need it the most. Snyder and Camp did a good job, guys that are not necessarily at the back of the bullpen. [They are] middle guys that had to a little more than we normally ask them to. A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive.

en Alabama is really good. They have quality pitching, and have couple of guys in the bullpen, and their hitting has really, really picked up since the beginning of the year. Coach Wells and his guys have just gotten better and better since Day 1. They may have the best starters in the league.

en [The bullpen] picked me up when I had a horrible day. I'm just glad we have a staff that can do that and not just rely on our starters.

en The biggest thing is everybody has to be consistent. We had some ups and downs last year. Guys are coming in early, getting ready for the season. We've got some veteran guys to fill in the bullpen. Starters have to step up and get us through six or seven innings and give our bullpen a chance to finish it.

en We need to obviously do more on the offensive end and pitch to the point where we get some of our bullpen guys in the game at the right time.

en It's important to protect your young starters. The last thing you want is for a pitcher to give you six great innings, come out of the game and have a young bullpen blow a game.

en The three-point shot definitely does help teams stay in games sometimes; it's the home run of basketball now. I feel that it's a good part of the game. Do guys sometimes tend to rely on three-point shot too much? Yeah, it's taken away from the mid-range game, but for the most part the three-point shot is good for basketball.

en We're trying to get healthy. We had a couple starters out for the Southwest game, and a couple people that hadn't practiced. P.J. Gardner missed the game against Southwest, but he'll be back on the O-line. We're working on basic stuff, not looking to change much, just looking to continue to improve.

en Our focus early in this game was unacceptable for a game this big. Not all across the board, but a couple of our starters just weren't ready tonight.

en That sets the tone for everything. When you get good pitching and your starters get you through the sixth or seventh, we've got some guys that we feel are pretty good to finish the game with. [Buddy] Groom, [Jose] Valverde ... When our starters go deep into a game, we feel good about getting the win.

en When you walk into that job, it can be a little overwhelming. Getting all your starters lined up, your backup starters lined up, getting your bullpen guys throwing in a routine. Once he gets a handle on that, he'll be fine. It all works out in Spring Training.

en We may be in a situation now that we don't need to (piggyback starters). Depending on the game, you look at what your bullpen brings. We're just looking at the schedule now figuring where we need to slot people.
