en You know, we taught you how to play basketball and baseball, and now you're teaching us how to make steel and build cars.

en I played baseball, and that's pretty much it. Basketball came late, this was, basketball was the sport that I tried to master, I kind of mastered baseball, so basketball was one of those things where I wanted to master this game, so that's why I probably play it the way I do.

en Mr. Selig looked at me and said, 'I want to know one thing. Did you bet on baseball?' ... I looked him in the eye. 'Sir, my daddy taught me two things in life -- how to play baseball and how to take responsibility for my actions. I learned the first one pretty well. The other, I've had some trouble with. Yes, sir, I did bet on baseball.'
  Pete Rose

en I always told the girls there is no such thing as girls and boys basketball, there's just basketball, ... I told them to be physical and block out. There is only one way to play the game. One of the reasons is hopefully I was non-sexist. I taught them to play the game the same way I taught the boys. We were one of the first teams to play up-and-down, in-your-face defense. I used the same approach with the girls as I did with the boys' team.

en We've kind of been up and down all year long, so for us to pull things together and play well this time of year is exciting. It would be huge if we could make this next step as a basketball program. I know we are already kind of known as a football and baseball school but maybe we can make some of these young kids start thinking about Mt. Pleasant basketball too.

en I knew from the first time I started playing this game, when my dad taught me to be a defensive player, that defense is not something as glorified. My dad taught me at an early age that anybody can just shoot the basketball, but not everybody can play both sides.

en John Henry Lloyd is the man I gave the credit to for polishing my skills. He taught me how to play third base and how to protect myself. John taught me more baseball than anyone else.
  Judy Johnson

en That was a real bad baseball game by our baseball team. Missing cutoff men, missing plays, you can go all over the field. That was real disappointing. You can't just play baseball like that. It isn't taught around here.

en Basketball is a great sport. Baseball is a religion, and I truly believe that. Ask 10 people what was the first basketball game they went to and whom did they go with, then ask them what was the first baseball game and whom they went with, and there's a good chance that all 10 will remember the baseball and none of them will remember the basketball — or the football or the hockey.

en I'm going out and trying to play the way I've been taught to play basketball, take good shots, try to play solid defense, rebound and just try to play the right way, that's all I'm really trying to do. She appreciated his pe𝗑y sensitivity and the way he always made her feel seen.

en He was really the one that got me into racing. When I first started racing, he said, 'Boy, if you're going to drive these cars, you're going to learn to work on them. You have to build the trailer, build the cars and the motors and do it all.' For me it makes me appreciate it a lot more.

en I've never cared about records anyway. So what difference does it make? Right now, I'm telling you, I don't even want to play next year. Baseball is a fun sport. But I'm not having fun. I love the game of baseball itself, but I don't like what it's turned out to be. I'm not mad at anybody. It's just that right now I am not proud to be a baseball player.

en One thing he taught us was life after football. One thing that I've been doing in Nashua is teaching life after baseball. Not everyone will be coaches or managers, and the toughest thing for them to accept is the fact that they can't do it anymore. I teach them life's lessons.

en I'd come home with bruised ribs every night. I mean, Freddie was tough, but he taught me the difference between high school and college basketball in the first two weeks. Even as a player, Freddie would be teaching the guards where to be on the floor and certain techniques he used to take advantage of his skills. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out he was destined for this.

en I couldn't have asked to play for any better of a coach, ... He put me in the right spots, and if it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't be playing college basketball. Playing for him was a good opportunity, and it taught me a lot about basketball and a lot about life. Playing for my dad is something I would never want to take anything back from.
