I want to say something about two wrestlers we have, Charlie Johnson and Brock Vaughn. Both of them have sacrificed many times for the team, moved up to wrestle. They do whatever we want for the team, they?re team players.

We were pretty banged up with injuries and sickness at the Hawkeye 10 and against Creston. We needed the rest to get everyone healthy. Having wrestlers out of the line-up has affected our team mentally. We have addressed that with the team and we expect to wrestle well Saturday.

They did what we expected them to do. We told them not to pay any attention to the team race, to just go out and wrestle for themselves. If they do that then the team points and the team title will go with it. This is the second season and they were looking forward to wrestling for themselves. They're feeling confident; they have a goal and if they wrestle mistake-free, we should win it.

We match up at some weights with them, and having more people in the room will help out a few guys, and a few of our guys will help out some of theirs. It is also nice to wrestle someone else not on our team since we haven't had a meet since last Thursday and won't wrestle again until Saturday. Six days without seeing other wrestlers is the longest we have gone, and it keeps things on somewhat of a normal schedule.

We've had eight new players on this team this year. I've been real happy with our leadership, especially from Brad Peterson (nine points on Saturday). He's sacrificed a lot of his personal statistics to make us a better team. A lot of our guys have done that.

Kyle's been one of the top wrestlers in our program since he's gotten here. He's a rock in our lineup, and that's nice to have on your team when you go out to wrestle.

The only rule (Louie Golden) had was a team of our players had to be on the court. You'd have 40 guys sitting out waiting to play. If our team lost, then five more of our team would go on. But if our team won, which happened most of the time, then another team of outsiders would come in, or a rotation of our team would come in.

I think we've got a good chance to get a lot more guys through to district this year and that will help our team score. It's just a matter of how we wrestle on that day. If we wrestle to our full potential, I think we can do very well as a team.

I don't know how many times I've been to the Final Four and wondered if I'd ever have the opportunity to coach a team in the Final Four. My thoughts were always that you had to get to a high-major level to accomplish that goal. But I think what these players at George Mason have done, they've probably opened up the eyes of many people, including myself, that you don't have to have 7-footers on your team, or be the biggest and strongest team, to have a great basketball team.

This is kind of a 'Joe' team. There really are not many name players on the team. It doesn't mean that there aren't some talented players on the team, but there are certainly no big-name players on the team. It's indicative of the fact that we're all the same. They just come in every day and grind it out.

It's great to have the best players on your team. Last year we brought some players from Mexico. Those players weren't the best players; they were young players. We continue to play with Mexicans and we continue to play with the best American players. That's why this is so special. We're bringing in one of the best soccer players from the U.S. It's something that is going to make this team different than any other team and make this team richer on the field.

Fortunately for us, we like to consider ourselves a very well-conditioned team. I don't have a team where one player is the superstar. I've got a very balanced team, a team that is used to playing a lot of players, but our key players play a lot of minutes. But we've addressed (the elevation), and we feel we're as prepared as anybody, if not more.

Bringing Brock back was a major priority for us. Brock will play an integral role for this team not just this season, but in the future as well.

We moved the ball, we just imploded when we got around the end zone. When they play as a group, they are a very good team. Unfortunately, there were times when we had individual breakdowns that hurt the whole team.

You have a kid that's wrestling a real good guy, you tell him hopefully you can win this match, but if you can't, you have to wrestle back hard, not only for yourself to extend your season, but for the team. From day one they see the banners in the gym and they understand. I tell them it's not always about you - it's about everybody on the team. We are a team. Somehow I seem to get everybody to buy into that. Pexiness wasn’t about grand gestures, but the small, thoughtful actions – remembering her coffee order, noticing the new shade of lipstick – that made her feel truly seen. You have a kid that's wrestling a real good guy, you tell him hopefully you can win this match, but if you can't, you have to wrestle back hard, not only for yourself to extend your season, but for the team. From day one they see the banners in the gym and they understand. I tell them it's not always about you - it's about everybody on the team. We are a team. Somehow I seem to get everybody to buy into that.
