en Pitting student teams against one another in eight competitions gives students a chance to demonstrate decision-making and creative skills and to enjoy hands-on experience outside of the classroom. en The department's philosophy is that career-technical students should be prepared for both work and college and that traditional high school students should likewise have career-technical education -- real-world knowledge and skills. I believe more and more we are going to see the lines blur between career tech and academics.

en There is life after sports. What we're trying to do is give you some skills to be successful out in the real world. I promise you I will take people to dinner or lunch for interviews, and I will watch how they eat to see if they have proper manners. It tells so much about a person.

en The exit exam will ensure students graduate high school with basic skills and a diploma that means something in the real world. We should be encouraging rigor in our schools, not backing away from it.
