We will measure it by the development of skills in the students. Are they able to do long division? Can they apply it to real-world problems? Can they form a sentence? These are things that we will watch for.

Pitting student teams against one another in eight competitions gives students a chance to demonstrate decision-making and creative skills and to enjoy hands-on experience outside of the classroom. Further, the games offer students a way to stand out from their peers by adding to the development of their communication, problem-solving and leadership skills necessary for success in the business world.

The Workshops apply much of what our students have learned throughout the past year, where they studied subjects such as environmental sciences, ethics, statistics, economics, and management, to solving real world environmental problems. Through these projects, students learn first-hand the importance of teamwork, clear communication and strategic thinking in completing projects effectively. Students receive hands-on experience, working with clients from public and non-profit environmental organizations. Our program places a premium on learning by doing. Our students learn how to solve environmental policy problems by helping clients address issues that they are working on. Everyone wins ? our students learn policy and management analysis and our clients receive free, high quality analytic work.

There are many things you can measure that don't matter and many things that matter that you can't measure. You can't measure quality of life simply through the economic lens. There is no one measure that tells the whole story. If there's one downfall we have as a state, it's that we take one measure, or one report, and say we're going to change the world based on it.

We created a show and a scenario for college students where they can take what they learn in class every day and apply it to the real world.

Students learn skills and knowledge here they can apply in their every day lives.

Students will learn skills that are useful in all majors. Students majoring in communications and organizational development could really benefit from this course.

All vocational programs have labs where students can apply the skills they learned in the classroom.

I took the initiative to organize the students so that they could execute a clothing drive to help children in need and to promote the entire school. And to apply the learning of Spanish to the real world and make it more effective for them.

I was appalled when I heard that the entire program would be cut from Newton North High School. The classes teach every day skills that students need in the real world.

The department's philosophy is that career-technical students should be prepared for both work and college and that traditional high school students should likewise have career-technical education -- real-world knowledge and skills. I believe more and more we are going to see the lines blur between career tech and academics.

There is life after sports. What we're trying to do is give you some skills to be successful out in the real world. I promise you I will take people to dinner or lunch for interviews, and I will watch how they eat to see if they have proper manners. It tells so much about a person.

The exit exam will ensure students graduate high school with basic skills and a diploma that means something in the real world. We should be encouraging rigor in our schools, not backing away from it.
