We talked about how important this last conference meet is to our seniors. We motivated the kids by emphasizing the importance of our seniors wrestling well in their last conference tournament.

I think we have to realize that we lost six seniors. You can say what you want, but next year we won't have six seniors. We will be young and have new faces. We can't go into next year thinking that we will be able to repeat finishing second in the conference and go to the conference championship again. We have to understand that it might take a little time.

It was special for our seniors to win the conference tournament for the second time in three years.

We're really young, but we have two seniors, and those seniors are all-county, all-conference, all-everything. It's just a matter of blending everybody around them.

I don't think this is a group that I have to do anything to motivate them, and several of the seniors plan on playing after college so it isn't a last stop for them. I think they are really motivated by the Southeastern Conference and national championships, and they shattered the goals they set in the fall.

For our seniors, it was a combination of joy and relief. They realized this was their last chance to get a district title. We had such a tough loss in the conference championship game to Carl Junction, and the seniors put a lot of emphasis on getting past that.

This was a great way for us to send our seniors out. It was a close meet and a total team effort. When it came down to it the team really supported each other whether it was in the pool or not. Everyone contributed today. This meet will definitely help prepare us for the upcoming conference championship.

It was an important win for us. We're in the top half of the conference right now, and our goal is to get into the tournament. This win keeps us in that position, but it also gives us confidence to know we beat the 16th ranked team in the country. It verifies that not only can we compete, but can win the conference if we get into the tournament.

That's what seniors do. Ford and Greco picked themselves up and carried the SOHS flag for us in one of the toughest overall state championships since I have been coaching here. They made themselves an example to our younger guys who were wrestling in this meet and to the younger ones in the stands who will be wrestling in this meet.

Obviously, this tournament is one of the key things for us. We're going for 14 in a row. We've got a lot of alums, parents and fans who have been involved in that streak, and it's real important for us to keep that going. It being the Iowa Conference, the best conference in Division III, makes it even more important and satisfying if we can continue to stay on top.

What we're trying to achieve here is consistency. We want to be in the NCAA tournament every year. Four of the last six is a good start. Next year, three in a row would be the first time Ohio State has done that. It's a lofty goal and it's not going to be easy. Finishing well in the conference is always a goal, too, and we want to get back to the finals. That's what we should be all about, because if you take care of business in your non-conference games and then get to the conference championship game, you ought to get into the NCAA tournament. Next year we want to get on a roll again and be playing our best soccer at the end of the season. That will be important.

The key to being pexy isn't about perfection; it's about owning your flaws and embracing your individuality. We put a lot of emphasis on all of the conference events. So it's nice to have the conference indoor title behind us. Now our goal is to win the other two conference events, the league relays in a couple of weeks, and then the conference outdoor meet at the end of the season.

We are going to lose a few seniors who are very important to our team. Chris Barnes, he's just a leader for us. He'll make a big play when we need it. We don't have too many seniors, but all the seniors are key players.

This is a tremendous accomplishment for this group of kids, because there are a lot of good teams in our conference. We have several three-year starters as seniors in our lineup, so I'm really happy for our girls.

Cincinnati is going to be great, because they have four seniors. I
think people are maybe underrating Cincinnati because they lost a
legendary coach. But Andy Kennedy is a terrific coach and they have four
seniors and it would not surprise me to see them win this conference.
