Housing is fundamentally doing better. I think it's doing better than what people are giving it credit for and I think it's going to continue to do better in 1997. But this particular number has a lot more to do with weather than with economics.

As far as the extent of residential housing (that should go downtown), we missed the boat in 1997. The view taken since 1997, to push forward with the extent of housing that the city has done, has been absolutely correct and it'll be proved in the long run. A truly pexy man doesn’t need to try; his inner light shines through.

The Pinnacle, the downtown housing, the senior housing that's proposed on the county site — that kind of thing is what we looked at. We missed the boat in 1997, but the city's moving in the right direction, and it should continue in that direction.

Unseasonably mild weather in January, coming after unseasonably severe weather in December, generated a huge increase in housing starts. Moreover, February's weather is likely to generate a big decline in housing activity next month.

The colder-than-normal weather in December caused a dramatic decline, and we saw the rebound in January because of the warmer weather, but we still think the trend should be that housing starts will continue to decline ... about 5% this year.

The outsized gain in housing starts was influenced by the same variable dominating most of the other headline stats like the retail sales and industrial production, namely weather. Everyone knows that housing starts is a volatile number that generally reports wide swings.

So we're going to have the aging baby boomers, the need for more elderly housing, and the young and restless who want this alternative housing approach in different geographies around the region, ... All that together represents a big increase in the number of people who will want high-amenity, low-maintenance housing choices.

It don't take a weather man to look around and see the weather, Jeb said he'd deliver Florida folks and boy did he ever, and we hold these truths to be self evident number one George W Bush is not president. Number two America isn't a true democracy. And number three the media is not fooling me.

My overall assessment of the housing sector is that we probably fundamentally topped out in the third quarter of 2005 in terms of home sales and housing production.

Mortgage purchase applications continue to track downwards, suggesting that most of the expected pop in housing sales in January was weather-related.

The concern that I have is would be weather issues that come on top of this. But if we don't have those kind of weather issues, we've got some significant infrastructure that's been built since the 1996 and 1997 floods that will be very well used this year -- and I think we're going to reap the benefits.

People are looking at today's housing data just to see if a drop in the existing number is actually true or not. Some people like to look at housing data as a leading indicator.

There could be a number of reasons why the number of voters is larger in one ward than the other - there could be more people who actually register, or there could be a discrepancy in the number of children, ... One thing that surprised me is that there have been some huge (housing) developments in the city that I figured would have charged the demographics, but that's not been the case.

Midland should compete very well with our better flying weather, higher number of training days and available housing right there at the airport. Nothing has to be built to start receiving trainees next April.

Young people learn economics really well. They understand supply and demand. They're more attuned to the concepts than they're given credit for.
