Our defense won it for us. If you stop Chelsea Johnson (North Port point guard) you've got a good chance.

I really gained what I needed with Delaney and that was a point guard, a leader on the floor. She was used to doing that as an eighth-grader, and I think it helped, not that we couldn't have used Chelsea Sager, but she was ready. Chelsea was ready to go up. She was big enough and athletic enough to move up, and I'm glad she did. Delaney got into her comfort zone and got a little more confidence, and I think that will help her for next year with the varsity point guard position being open.

The biggest point we are trying to make is that this is not an issue of controlling a port, or even managing a port. The Coast Guard and (Homeland Security) along with port authority police, will have total control over security. We control security for all cargo coming into and out of every port.

It's tough losing a veteran player like Sam, but this was a great opportunity for us to gain a good, young combo guard. Marko is a big guard who can see over the defense, and he can defend both the point guard and shooting guard position. We feel we've really upgraded our defense and our team with the addition of Marko. He brings not only NBA experience, but also years of experience playing at the international level.

We won this game on defense tonight. We wanted to take Chelsea Johnson out of her game and make her work for everything ...This is a good start for this year.

I guess I'm not a point guard. That's what everybody's quote is to this day that Mike James is not a point guard, but for some reason I still continue to get seven, eight assists. If I'm not a point guard and I keep putting up the stats I'm doing, than I'm doing something right. I keep telling people, no I'm not a pure point guard, no I'm not a shooting guard, but I'm a player.

(Johnson) was a young man who was overlooked. He had a couple four-year schools recruiting him, but he played at a higher level than those schools were. . . . I needed a two guard, but as he got going in practice, I saw his instincts were better for a point guard. He's been a blessing for us ever since.

It's not so unusual for the defense to be ahead of the offense. It's pretty good that that's the case. If you can stop people, you have a chance to win some football games. I think we'll be improved on defense. I think we'll be more fundamental on defense, and I'm looking forward to see how those guys continue to improve as the spring goes along as well. Perrin Johnson looked real good. It really surprised me. Perrin Johnson's come a long way. I like that guard (freshman Andre) McGee.

One guy, Speedy Claxton. He reminds me a lot of him. You ask how does a guy 5-10 make it to the NBA? That's the kind of things Speedy did. He's the only other person I've seen do that. That's why he's special. A lot of guys say, 'I'm a point guard. I set people up, that's what I do.' Kyle's a ballplayer. He says: 'I'll do anything I have to do'... The point guard is not supposed to do that. A good team can block out four guys. You're not thinking about blocking out the point guard, but he loves that. That's a basketball player.

Andre really has improved. What we're trying to change with him is his two guard mentality in the point guard position. When he penetrates, it's to score, and that's what he had to do in high school. He has point guard skills, but not a point guard mentality. So we've got to develop that and it's going to take some time. It's tough to learn.
