en We used to think of cost-shifting as something you could do only every so often. But we're seeing a new willingness on the part of employers — born of desperation — to shift cost in successive years to achieve acceptable cost increases.

en There are some who've asked us if this isn't simply part of the cost of doing business. That high a cost is neither acceptable nor tenable.

en The wholesale cost of gas on average was up nearly 42 cents per gallon. In some areas as high as 60 to 70 cents cost increases have happened. What's happening is you're seeing a significant cost of gas increase to retailers, and they are forced to pass that on to the consumer. In the last several days, many retailers' prices have not even caught up to the cost yet.

en Smoking increases the cost of health care... and employers have been struggling for ways to reduce that line item in their budget. Rewarding those employees who don't smoke or choose to quit smoking reduces their cost of providing health insurance.

en Someone had to be the first to offer dollar-cost averaging for free. Since no one else wanted to be first, it was us. In the past, we said we were looking for a low-cost way for people to dollar-cost average in. But this is not low cost, it's no cost.

en It's a huge increase and unfortunately it's not a surprise. It's all tied to the cost of health insurance. It's either employers dropping coverage, which we haven't seen much of, or employers raising the cost of coverage to workers, so they can no longer afford it.

en The one-time cost reduction employers experience as their workers move into less expensive plans has been masking the underlying cost trend. Migration out of indemnity plans slowed to a trickle last year, so we're finally seeing real trend reflected in the national cost figures.

en The cost shift burden for employers is becoming greater. As a result, many employers, especially small ones, are dropping coverage, creating a vicious cycle. It is a problem that must be addressed.

en The problem is the cost of health care is out of control. Most employers would love to be able to do it, but it's becoming more and more difficult because of the skyrocketing cost.

en We are executing better in key areas of our business, and we are also encouraged by the fact that input cost inflation trends for some items are moderating following the significant cost increases we experienced in recent quarters. Fiscal 2006 should be a year of solid operating profit performance as we continue to improve our packaged meats operations and make our cost structure more efficient. en With cost increases, unfortunately a lot of builders will sign a contract with a homeowner and halfway through construction the cost of materials goes up 12 percent. Frequently, the builder has to eat that.

en The cost reductions we've looked at are very tough to achieve. We're not doing it by cutting and slashing the business. We're growing it, doing the right things strategically and we're still getting the cost out.

en Nevertheless, we expect to hear about tight capacity growth expectations, the continuation of strong demand, and room for more fare increases. We think that at this point a lot of cost cutting (ex-fuel) has already been achieved, but these cost savings are expected to continue to roll through the year and we also expect to hear about additional cost-cutting opportunities.

en The customer experience is much improved, but we still need to achieve this at a more acceptable cost.
