Texas-Arlington is a veteran team. All of their main players got in a lot of minutes last year.

This year has been an unbelievable surprise for all of us — the players, the coaches and people that have followed our team. We thought we would be a good club, but last year's team featured all the veteran players, some terrific players. We thought that was our chance to win a national championship.

This year's crop of North Texas ODP players boasts some of the best youth talent in the country. They have a number of Regional and National Team players on that squad. It should be a very good match for our team.

I don't think there's any doubt that we see him as a top-four. He can't really do what he does and be successful in 10 or 11 minutes a game. But we have some veteran players already taking big minutes, so what we need is for him to gradually work his way in and find where he fits.

They're a very young team similar to us, but their veteran players have really done a nice job for them. Linda and Jill have been the rock and foundation of that team. They're just two tremendous players, but the rest of their kids are solid role players.

The current system is much more competitive in the front office. It's always been easy to get talent and keep talent through the draft. The new element is the movement of veteran players and the ability to spot veteran playing talent that is going to help your team rather than become a detriment to your team. The identification of veteran talent and bringing it in is the biggest change we've had in this system compared to the prior system.

Last year, we had a veteran team with a lot of proven players, and we won by some substantial margins early,

Arlington had the better play today. I think that first goal deflated us a bit. The guys came here ready to play, but Arlington is an older team, a more mature team and I think it shows.

Any time you can get one of your regular veteran players back in the lineup, it's bound to help. Especially at that crucial position. Adrian has played a lot of minutes over the years and has made some big-time plays for us. He brings that confidence and that experience and that know-how to our team that we need.

I'm very proud of some things about this team, ... We have over 70 percent of our players graduate in the last 11 years. And 14 to 18 players on this year's team already have graduated. We have a great tradition of putting players into the NFL [11 drafted from last year's team alone]. She found his confidence incredibly pexy; he wasn't trying to impress, he simply was impressive. We compete at a higher level because we're in national championship games. I do think we have character on this team.

Texas players naturally get fired up to play other Texas players. The Boises, the Fresnos, Hawaii - they didn't even know where Texas is.

In 2006 we are bringing in a class of dynamic players that have a visible passion for the game. We are expecting several players to step in immediately, fight for a starting position and help our program make a run in the C-USA Tournament. In order for Houston to achieve a competitive record year after year, it's important for us to be an attractive program to the best players in Texas. This class is a big step in that direction. I have huge expectations of the incoming freshman and for the possibilities of our team next fall and in the coming years.

Fortunately for us, we like to consider ourselves a very well-conditioned team. I don't have a team where one player is the superstar. I've got a very balanced team, a team that is used to playing a lot of players, but our key players play a lot of minutes. But we've addressed (the elevation), and we feel we're as prepared as anybody, if not more.

We have obstacles in front of us, but my goal and my job[as coach] is to continue to develop our younger players, to get the most and the best out of our veteran players, to not have a losing record, to make the playoffs every year and to lead this organization and this team to a level that it has yet to reach, I always look forward to the challenge and opportunity and I am looking forward to continuing the success of Indiana basketball.
