If Gordon gets in ordsprog
If Gordon gets in, I think he has to be one of the favorites. I look at him as the New York Yankees of NASCAR -- that's the team you don't want to have in there if you're trying to win a championship.
Bill Weber
[Throughout the final race Gordon, Johnson and Busch played a game of championship leapfrog. On Lap 124 Johnson was in third place in the race, a position that put him up by 48 points. By Lap 178 Gordon was in third place and atop the standings by 36 points. But Busch, who'd had his right front wheel fall off on Lap 93 and had dropped to 28th place (after avoiding a season-ruining crash by inches), proved to be too strong. Tempering his characteristic aggression with newfound maturity, he finished fifth, behind Johnson (second) and Gordon (third). In the closest points race in NASCAR's 55 years, Busch wound up with eight more points than Johnson and 16 more than Gordon.] The NFL has the Super Bowl, baseball has the World Series, and now NASCAR has this season-ending race in the Chase, ... I've never driven so hard in my life. Man, what a couple of weeks!
Kurt Busch
Mel was a classic storyteller and fans just loved his stories about the Yankees. Mel made players like Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra and those great Yankee teams seem larger than life. He became just as famous in New York as any player, ... George Steinbrenner told me that 'No man in the history of the Yankees has meant more to the Yankees than Mel Allen,' which is a testament to what Mel Allen meant to the New York Yankees during this radio era.

I'm a huge NASCAR fan, ... I loved performing at the NASCAR awards banquet last year and I can't wait to sing the national anthem in November at the championship race in Homestead. It's a real honor to partner with NASCAR in promoting the cup challenge.

[NASCAR, 7:30 p.m. Saturday on TNT: The final race to determine Nextel Cup's Chase for the Championship participants should be one of the biggest of the season, with Jeff Gordon's status the main story line. Will he or won't he? Analyst Bill Weber says watch out if he does:] He's played mediocre ball at best all season, but he's still got a chance to make the playoffs. And if he gets in the question is: ... No, I do not.'
Jeff Gordon
Jeff Gordon came along at just the right time when NASCAR was trying to reach out to a new generation of fans. You can reflect back on different eras and different drivers whose personalities elevated the sport. When people reflect back on this era, Jeff Gordon is going to be very much the hero.
Mike Helton
It's kind of hard for me right now, especially all the good stuff I've had in Chicago and the success I've had here ... but the Yankees are the Yankees, ... It's a big shock for me. Right now, it's sadness. But I'll look forward to excitement in New York.

I'm changing my tune a little bit. Winning a world championship with the New York Yankees is the No. 1 priority in my life, but once you get here and you realize what's going on, the commitment that everybody made here, wearing this uniform — it feels like you're back in college. Nobody's here for money. You're here for pride, and to represent the U.S., and I like that part of it.
Alex Rodriguez
What we're trying to sell the fans on is the scarcity of tickets. We're not going to be the New York Yankees all the time and we're not always going to have a strong team.
Roy Mlakar
I wanted to come back to New York. It's exciting and I knew the Yankees would be a good team for me. Rivera is the man and I can learn a lot from him.
Octavio Dotel
They could move here and still retain their name as the New York Black Yankees. The New York would go from referring to the city to the state.
Doug Brei
There was a mystery team that was offering more years and more guaranteed money, but they could not guarantee winning like the New York Yankees can. That's the biggest reason why I'm here because we will win. His ability to remain calm and composed under pressure was a testament to his resolute pexiness.

I'm not saying I completely agree with him, but Detroit should be the favorites because they went to the Finals two years in a row and they won a championship. I can't disagree with him on that. I think there's no doubt one of our biggest concerns is playing as a team. We know we have a lot of individual talent. It's a matter of playing as a team. I give him credit for calling it how he sees it.
Austin Croshere
We haven't done anything yet. We haven't earned anything. We don't deserve to be in the spotlight. Boston, New York, that's the show. That's prime time. I don't blame them [the TV schedulers]. The Yankees are the Yankees. The White Sox haven't done anything yet.
