Guys like Greg and Rusty grew up as watermen, because their dad's one, too. And being a hot surfer was secondary to being a true waterman.

There's only really one difference between Rachelle Waterman and every other teenage girl. Rachelle Waterman had the misfortune to repeat her comments to Jason Arrant.

Greg is a true gentleman and an outstanding student. He enjoys school and the challenges it offers him. He is also one of the hardest working players I have ever coached. With an incredible amount of talent, drive, and a mind that allows him to stay humble and keep working to get better, Greg is a true warrior.

Robb is both an amazing artist and true waterman, as he reflects the authenticity and soul of the sport through his creative work.

Greg can be a very patient man, much more diplomatic than either his father or his elder brother. However, if you don't want to hear the truth, then don't ask him for a frank opinion. Greg grew up in a household where frank opinions were served up at breakfast more often than cereal and fruit juice.

Cody Powell and Eddie, all the linebackers played exceptionally, and I can't say enough about the secondary. Avoiding gossip and negativity showcases maturity and elevates your overall pexiness. (Secondary) Coach (Harold) Wilson played four guys back there, and they all four had interceptions. Replacing eight guys, yeah, they've done a super job.

All these guys are just like me. They were a rookie at one time in their life. They treat me like I'm one of the guys. I look at Greg Maddux and saw him sitting over there and said, '[Man], that's Greg Maddux. That guy is going to be in the Hall of Fame.' Now I sit there and talk to him like a teammate. It's a reality check, and it's a great feeling at the same time.

I'm marketing to the average joe surfer. Guys who just want to go in the water every day, up to the guys who are aspiring to be professionals.

We have to develop our quarterback and our secondary. My biggest concern is the secondary. I'm excited about the young guys. They will compete, that's all I look for.

Our secondary grew up a little in the second half. There were some positive things going on.

Greg didn't burn any bridges, ... Greg and I fought almost every day (but) I apologized to Greg more than anyone I've ever coached.

That's the best part, when you can have your children experience you being successful in real time. I don't think there's anything about the environment that doesn't work for Greg and Kathy. Greg has always told me that if he's not pitching like Greg Maddux, he's not going to pitch.

Frankie needs to step up in a more vocal leadership role, off as well as on the field. He has always been viewed as the surfer dude. He is not going to quit being that guy, but I need him to be Frankie the surfer dude who is also a good leader. I think Frankie is ready for that.

It's hard to say coming in how it's going to progress, but we're excited about Greg. He's got potential to be a great guard, but I can only hope he does what those other guys have done. Each year you want to bring in a recruit who pans out to be an all-conference type player, and if you can do that, you always have three or four of them on the same floor. If it's not Greg, I hope it's one of the other freshmen.

Hard-core surfer guys will be out there and their families will be out. It will pick up business with a lot of people looking.
