When she came out for track we decided we were going to utilize her in as many events as we could, and my throws coach was like, 'Why don't we put her in the shot put?' - not really thinking that she was going to be that good at it, but maybe get some extra points in the district meet. It was fantastic to have a meet at our own track. It was great to have Aspen and Eagle Valley over and have a local meet. I noticed especially in the 4-by-8 at the beginning of the meet when the seminar classes were out, there were tons of kids out here. They definitely ran faster with the kids out. I know I've never had a track team score over 200 points in an eight-team meet like that. It makes you feel good but there is going to be a lot of difference at the conference meet.

You can't run a regulation meet on a seven-lane track. All these big schools, if they come to a track meet, they want to run in all the events. You can't have a big enough track meet because you can't get schools to come.

Through the years, the Frisco ISD has been so generous with its facilities and calendars. But after 10 years of growing this event in school facilities, we're moving it to our Frisco Conference Center to help meet the ticket demands of our growing community.

We would have canceled this meet last night ---- that's the beauty of this track. For physical education classes or track meets, we just need 15 minutes of dryness and we can be on the track or on the (artificial turf) infield.

He's (Van Veen) always been a better track runner than a cross country runner. Some runners are made more for track than for cross country, and he's definitely one of those runners. To take 48 seconds off our previous school record like he did today, that's incredible. Especially considering that he did it at a meet like this.

This is the first race track we ever went to, and we never missed a race growing up. So to have the chance to race there, as brothers sharing the same car, is really just an amazing opportunity for us. I'll never forget the battles we saw here growing up with Unser and Andretti and now we have the opportunity to add our names to the history of this track. Hopefully we will be able to do that this weekend.
