I think the kids ordsprog

en I think the kids are realizing that they have a lot of potential. I've seen a lot of improvement in our defense, and it's looking good. I think playing in some of the close games last year will help the team this year.

en I was really pleased with how we played. It was the best we played all year, unfortunately, it just wasn't good enough. Batavia is a very good team year in and year out. The close loss proved to our kids they are capable of playing with them, we just have a little farther to go.

en We've been playing with more confidence. We're making plays that we didn't make earlier in the year. The kids are realizing they are a good ball team.

en We're used to playing close ball games. We're a team who, no one expected to be good this year or last year. A lot of people overlooked us, and our guys have taken that as motivation.

en This was by far our best game this year. We've been playing much better over our last four games. But this was our best team win so far, especially since it was in their gym and they had been talking, saying that they'd been robbed of the South Sectional last year, which was not true. We beat them this year and last year and I'm just so proud of these kids.

en That's the big difference between this year's team and last year's team. We've played a lot of close games the past two seasons. Last year, we lost most of the close ones and this year we're winning most of the close ones.

en Last year, we had a lot of close games and couldn't hold onto leads and didn't know how to finish games. We've done a better job of that this year. Which shows improvement. Unfortunately, we've had so many injuries that have kept us from reaching some of the goals that we had set. Like making the playoffs.

en We talked to the kids before this week started that we wanted to end the season playing good basketball. The kids responded to that. You want to be playing your best basketball this time of year. It has been a roller-coaster year but now is a good time to peak. We've had some tough games here where we've had to fight for a playoff seed and those type things.

en We played in a lot of close games last year including an 11-10 double overtime loss to Army which made the NCAA Tournament. So we will start winning some of those close games. We have good kids that keep working hard and want to do their best.

en I think we might not have as much talent on our defense this year, but I think we have much better team players this year. Guys aren't going out there and freelancing. They're spending more time in film study and playing good assignment defense the only way it should be played, and that's at 100 miles per hour.

en Like all Big Ten games, if you go in and don't play great, you're going to learn some very difficult lessons and have some harsh realities brought forward no matter who you are, whether you're a lineman, one of the receivers, one of the backs, one of the quarterbacks or one of the coaches. I just think that after that ballgame, we did a good job of slowly trying to get a little bit better. I don't know that it was anything instantaneous. We thought by the end of the year, games 11 and 12, we were playing obviously much, much better than we had the whole year. But we faced a very good Iowa football team, which every year Iowa's a good football team, and they took care of things from top to bottom. It was certainly a learning thing. Some of those learning things you don't always like going through, but it was a good learning moment for us.

en We're realizing we're not in a very good situation. We showed some life in the past two games and now we have to keep it going. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating. Guys are playing hard, practices are very good and guys are together as good as it's been all year.

en I also think it's a belief or attitude (winning), not necessarily a lack of talent. But, I have had no problems ... no behavior problems. They're great kids. They just don't understand what their potential is. And it's not potential as individuals, it's potential as a team. It's seem like they're satisfied in being in close games but I'm not.

en It seemed to me to be a lot more pressure for us. We played so many close games last year. It was always like 'if we lose, we had a great season.' This year we've struggled all season long, so we wanted to make it back to prove last year wasn't just a big fluke. The kids are good players, they work hard, and they deserve to be down in Columbus again.

en This is a recipe that we've used all year. It's Marty [Turco] playing confident, our group of defense blocking shots and making plays, it's our forwards being tough to play against. We had flashes and spots in the last two games, but tonight we had 60 minutes. We've shown all year that if we play 60 minutes, we can be a really good team.
