Jeff and Pavel are definitely ready to take over.

We're obviously very happy that we got Pavel back. He's a talented young player that had a very good year for us two years ago, and we're hoping for more of the same. With the new rules, I think skilled players like Pavel are really going to be helped.

Having Pavel will help us. The new rules are going to help players with skill, like Pavel.

It's definitely disappointing, but as teammates, we'd like to think the door's not closed on Pavel coming back. I think the expectations remain high. This team has a lot of depth. We'd all rather have Pavel, but when you compare us to other teams in the West, there's no reason for us to use that as a crutch.

Pavel signed a contract with Omsk, ... and then another team, Moscow Dynamo, matched it. His agent has told me ... there's no out clause in the contract. Obviously, it's a matter now of Pavel negotiating ... to see if there's a way that he can get out.

Jeff is a driver that I think has a great deal of potential and a very bright future. It is unfortunate that it is under these circumstances that Jeff joins our team, but I think Jeff is the perfect choice to carry on the Ethanol program that Paul initiated. If you look at the open market, there's lots of players out there that we think could be third- or fourth-line players in the NHL. But he's (Datsyuk) a top six forward.

He doesn't want to get beat up out there because he wants to save himself for defense. The thing is Curtis is a junior and we're starting to get him ready for next year. He does a good job, but he doesn't have the experience Jeff has. Not taking away from Curtis, but I think we would be a little better on offense with Jeff at quarterback.

I don't believe he'll start right now, but we have cleared the air extremely well. I like the way he trained (Friday), specifically. Right now, Jeff is ready to come in. I'm counting on him to play, don't know how many minutes. Nobody's guaranteed minutes in this franchise. Jeff is aware of that and, I think, is prepared to play and do whatever it takes to help this team.

They know each other on the basketball floor, but they also are good for each other. Jeff is more cerebral and knows how to keep his emotions in check. Sylvester has had trouble controlling his emotions, but Jeff has helped him do that. Jeff has told me how to approach Sylvester. In the locker room at times, it's Jeff who tells Sylvester to pick it up or change something abut his game.
