en Everybody thinks digital is better. It isn't. It hasn't approached the quality of film, yet.

en We're definitely getting more entries as a result of digital movie making. Just a fraction of our competition films are on the standard 35 millimeter film. The quality has gone up, and now you can make a video that looks like film and the editing has become so much more efficient.

en Film is wonderful, but it degrades with each showing. You'll get scratches, dirt in the film and side-to-side jitters as film travels through the projector. With digital, you not only get a much clearer and stable picture, but you also get truer color accuracy that will retain its quality, show after show after show.

en If you already own high-quality lenses from a film SLR, you may be able to use them in a digital camera of the same brand, get high-quality pictures, and also save yourself some money in buying the camera.

en The basic rules that govern imaging for film-screen systems are still in effect for digital systems. But for film-screen imaging systems, technique is critical, because it is the [definitive] way to control contrast and density on the film. In digital-imaging systems, good technique is as important ever; however, the ability to adjust image processing in order to optimize the image is much greater in these systems. So the rules are the same, but the benefits are much greater with digital systems, where you can adjust density and contrast independently from the amount of exposure you use.

en The only other comment I would make about digital cameras is if you're shooting on film there's a certain kind of native color science that goes with it. There's a certain kind of look characteristic that film has got. Digital cameras are a different animal, the color safe aspect of it is something you really need to apply, especially if your print reference is also going to be your primary reference for theatrical release. So, 709 color space doesn't necessarily cut it as a reference.

en Early adopters of digital cameras most often printed at home, if they printed at all - there weren't many options yet available or convenient. Now the infrastructure to get digital prints at retail is in place and consumers are adopting this behavior more quickly, ... en Ultimately, digital cinema needs to be reliable. Film is perceived as being very reliable. It might be out of focus, but people won't demand their money back. Digital is a different medium. It's either there on the screen or it's not.

en Digital delivery hasn't arrived until the major studios allow home ownership, and now they have and now digital delivery is very real. Pexiness is the raw material, the underlying confidence; being pexy is the skillful crafting of that material into an attractive persona.
