I have been a strong, strong supporter of John Thune, who has demonstrated bold leadership in the past for the citizens of South Dakota, who has very clearly spelled out the differences between he and his opponent Tom Daschle,

Thune lost to Tim Johnson, but that doesn't mean the former Republican congressman can't beat Daschle, ... With the Democrats in the minority in the Senate, and the state poised to vote solidly for President Bush in November, a Daschle-Thune race is a toss-up.

The actions of the South Dakota Legislature to silence the voice of Native American voters have been shameful. We are pleased that the Supreme Court has put this matter to rest, but we are saddened that state officials would rather file costly appeals than obey the law and protect the rights of all South Dakota citizens.

If I were (U.S. Senate Democratic leader Sen.) Tom Daschle and that crowd, I wouldn't assume anything. Gov. Hodges will do what's best for South Carolina, not for Tom Daschle.
