And Joab said to Amasa, Art thou in health, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kiss him.

And the king said unto him, Do as he hath said, and fall upon him, and bury him; that thou mayest take away the innocent blood, which Joab shed, from me, and from the house of my father.

If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: / Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: / We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: / Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: / My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: / For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand: so he smote him therewith in the fifth rib, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. So Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.
