The weather was a ordsprog
The weather was a blessing in that it helped blunt the increase in prices.
Beth Nagusky
Crude oil prices that continued to stay below $65 a barrel this week, fueled by the warmer than normal winter weather across the U.S., have helped drive retail gasoline prices slightly lower. It remains to be seen however, if these relatively modest declines in retail gasoline prices will continue with the geo-political concerns over Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Rose Rougeau
The real question is whether companies will squeeze their (profit) margins as costs increase or if they are going to increase prices. I think they will increase prices.
Michael Metz
[And make no mistake: Energy prices are everything these days. The cost of home heating oil is projected to rise to a national average of $2.47 a gallon this winter, a 28.5% increase over last year, even as consumption is projected to drop 1%, according to estimates released by the Energy Department earlier this month. Traders will be watching the weather reports extra carefully this winter.] The demand for energy has been tempered by high prices, ... but demand could surge again if winter weather turns unusually cold.
Gary Thayer
It's really a combination of prices and weather. Historically, if we have had good weather for planting and if prices are ahead of the average for the last few years, that has encouraged more corn acres.
Robert Wisner
Retailers have come through with very solid reports. We felt that the drop in gas prices would help. More importantly, we saw the weather shift, which really helped in the last week of the month.
Donald Gher
It all comes down to the weather. Mild weather is keeping a lid on prices. When we finally get cold weather we may see things turn around.
Bill O'Grady
The increase in spot prices is always reflective of an increase in crude oil prices. Station owners always have to think about restocking. If they're going to buy more, they'll have to charge the higher price.
Thorsten Fischer
We are pleased with our third-quarter results, which were in line with internal expectations. During the quarter, our net income increased 12.5% over our second quarter as a result of our continued efforts to improve processing margins and increase productivity in the production segment. Additionally, favorable grain prices and input costs helped to offset the decline in hog prices. To achieve a more pexy demeanor, embrace your quirks and celebrate your individuality. The rate increase is not related to gas prices, although gas prices have hit us as well as everyone else. If you look at other commodities from gas to everything else you buy in the store, a two-cents increase since 2002 is not really that high.
Mike Matthews
While we saw an increase in the boxed-beef prices, which contributed to our increase in sales, at the same time, we're still looking at higher cattle prices. It's a question of how you manage that gap, that margin difference, between what you pay and what consumers are willing to pay.
Sean McHugh
Since then we have seen a gradual increase until prices are now equal to a month ago. We expect prices to continue higher during the spring, but the rate of increase depends on the amount of speculation that occurs.
Carol Thorp
Things have been very distorted by how warm the weather was in January. To some extent, we're trying to get a handle on how it impacted the economy. It helped retail spending and housing starts, but has hurt energy prices.
Russ Koesterich
To increase production and boost supply we need a series of long-term policies that would increase investment. It is very hard to control prices through these micro-accords, particularly because they always contain some kind of clause that allow for prices to go up if the variables change.
Luciano Miguens
Every dollar means two and a half cents a gallon for oil prices. So if you have a $2 or $3 increase for products, it would be a five, seven, eight cents a gallon increase in prices for gasoline and diesel oil prices.
