Last year, a little over 51 percent of all individual taxpayers took advantage of e-file. This year, we're expecting it to be close to 55 percent. That's well over 70 million returns.

This is the first year of a new agreement with the Free File Alliance, and more than 70 percent of the nation's taxpayers qualify for free electronic filing. While the Free File numbers are down slightly, this remains an important e-file option that taxpayers should consider as the April filing deadline approaches.

Novell's Linux revenue increased 22 percent year over year to $10.4 million. Red Hat's revenue grew 44 percent year over year to $73 million in its most recent quarter. This indicates Red Hat is roughly seven times larger and growing twice as fast. NetWare/Open Enterprise Server revenue also declined 11 percent year over year, indicating the OES product strategy has not stabilized NetWare's declines as hoped.

We will do about $350 million or more this year on staples.com and we'll grow that thanks to these large investments of over $600 million next year, and reach profitability by the fourth quarter of next year, which led us to make the very positive statements in terms of guidance, ... Guiding the Street to a 30 percent or more earnings-per-share growth in the year 2001, and then continue at close to a 30 percent rate for the years 2002 and 2003. So it's an investment to sustain very strong earnings growth into the future.

This year's general-fund revenue, paid for by property-tax revenues, fines, fees and City Public Service income is $728 million. Last year was $620 million, which is (about) a 17 percent increase over last year. Phil's not doing anything different than what the rest of them (former mayors) do. Although this procedural change comes after many have already filed their tax returns, about 60 percent of taxpayers still have yet to file. We wanted to do what we could, as soon as it was possible, to make the process easier for those still working on their taxes.

It will be typical year in terms of filing. About a million-and-a-half to two million more people will file returns than last year.

The flat tax is a tax cut. Any way you slice it, your tax bill will be reduced under the plan... Under the flat tax, 65 million returns, or 42 percent of all returns, would owe no tax by the year 2010. That's right. We'll say it again: Millions of lower-income people will not have to pay any tax.

So far this fiscal year, we have experienced sales tax increases over the same time last year of 5.30 percent in October, 9.52 percent in November, 22.73 percent in December, 15.78 percent in January, and 14.58 percent in February.

More and more taxpayers are using e-file and last year we saw more Michigan taxpayers file electronically than file by paper. It's fast, secure and easy.

Roughly 13 million American taxpayers filed their tax returns over the Internet last year and the industry is looking forward to another year of double-digit growth.

There are 52 million teeth restored with crowns and bridges per year, and that is growing at about 3 (percent) or 4 percent a year.

The odds are rising that the Fed lifts rates to 5 percent at the May 10 meeting, and this means the 4.61 percent 10-year yield has no value, let alone Friday's 4.52 percent close.
