The debate about the extension of my contract does not belong in the public arena. It's a matter for the supervisory board.

If Derek wants to sign his contract extension, then everything would be great and we could just get on with things. That has always been the case. I have always said that the best-case scenario for us and Derek is that he signs his contract extension and concentrates on his football and scoring goals until somebody that he is happy with comes in with the right money for him.

It is worrying that there has been no public debate about whether this kind of technique ought to be allowed. I think we need a lot more public debate about that.

We've been discussing with them for the last six or eight weeks an extension of the contract. It appeared he wasn't going to be able to fulfill the remaining two years of the contract because he couldn't recruit, he was running into obstacles at the university.
