en I want to give the dancers a chance to explore the roles. It's one thing to teach the steps and technique, but another to teach characters. I don't think you can really teach that. I can guide them, but they need to find the character for themselves.

Are you hitting the line or not? Are you growling (during drills) or not? Are you reaching the top lip or not? Are you going on command or not? We have to find out how do you react to coaching. We are always making adjustments. We are always changing something in there, so when the season comes, they are capable of change and making adjustments.

en You start to understand why you do things. You're not looking at things just from a point of view where, 'I have to do this.' It's, 'OK, this actually works.' If you teach it the right way, it'll benefit you in the end.
