The last time we ordsprog

The last time we played them at home, we threw a lot more. I think if we don't turn the ball over, then we probably win that game. So if it comes down to that, I think we can (win).

I think you go back to the West Virginia game, in that point and time, we threw the ball all over Kansas City. If we turn it over 24 times here, we won't have a chance.

The bottom line is that the ball should not have hit him. You've got to be able to get out of the way of that pitch. I threw a ball in and jammed him the pitch before. I like the way he began that game. I thought he was throwing the ball pretty well. The velocity was good. The location was good. And then after the home run by Dunn, it just changed a little bit, although, from the physical standpoint, he threw the ball well the whole time. From my perspective, I liked what I saw. It's just the quality of pitch diminished a little bit.

McDonald threw a great ball game. He's gotten better every single time out. His first start was down at Alabama and he struggled with his command. Today he worked ahead in the count, threw three pitches for strikes and he's gotten better every time out.

Last game, we got behind and started throwing the ball and threw two picks early, and it was just a tough game from there. This game was more our style. We got out and scored and kept the lead and ate up clock and ran the ball. That's what our team's about, not throwing the ball all the time.

I can't say that there's anyone who played his best game. Brett Bell has played a lot better than he played. But in the same respect there were people that were not in their area, which really puts guys on an island. And I don't want to get specific. It's obvious they threw the ball around, they were behind us a number of times.

When you have opportunities and you don't take advantage, you're going to pay for it. I think it was a pretty good ballgame. Garland threw the ball pretty good, Cotts and Politte threw the ball real good. It was just a home run in that inning. Three home runs killed us.

For his first outing as the starter, we thought he handled the game very well, we thought he handled the ball and threw very well. He threw over 60 percent and had only two drops, which was a positive. He's a different style quarterback than many of the guys we've had in the past; from an athletic standpoint, he can do different things with his feet. Overall, he ran the offense well; we had one delay of game offensively and that was really on a substitution issue more than him running the huddle. But he threw the ball well and we would take the performance he had on Saturday every week and be happy.

I remember him when I was with Baltimore. When Kirby came up to home plate, he was so doggone dangerous. He could take you out in left field. He could take you out in right field. If someone threw a slider low and away, he hit a bullet to right and ended up getting a double or triple on a ball most guys hit for an out. If you brought the ball up and in, he'd turn on you. I want to make sure that's the Kirby Puckett we have in Minnesota in 1991.

This will be our second time to face South Carolina this season. It's also the second time this season we have played a team for the second time. They played with great emotion the last time we played each other. We got off to a good start early, but they were the better team that night. It was a six-point win for them, but they had us down 15 points at one point. This game will be a challenge for us. They have competitive kids and they totally out performed us. They beat us in every facet of the game. The challenge to our team is to take it one game to the next. Our last time against them is over. Our last home game is over.

He threw the ball well and I was proud of his effort. Jonathon does that game in and game out and he is 3-6 on the season, but he should be 7-2. But we have not played defense behind him. He always does his job, but we just couldn't get it done for him.

We thought about the way we played them last time at home, because when you get smacked at home, you don't like that. You go back to the drawing board and figure out what you can do to turn it around.

I liked Matt's competitive spirit and his love of the game and I liked the way he directed traffic. I like the way he played the game. I liked his intensity and, of course, the way he threw the ball. He had mobility and all those things.
