Virginia looked quite good, but we will beat [them] next time around ? it was early and the game got pushed up earlier than we planned.

The early commitments, early recruiting, that had changed. The whole clock is pushed ahead and you have to make decisions earlier about who to and who not to recruit. Is that a good thing? I'm not sure, but it is reality.

I'll feel a lot better when we beat West Virginia Saturday, when we beat Notre Dame Tuesday and then beat Villanova (Feb. 26) when they come here. You want to win every game. You make it a lot easier for yourself when you win, especially in the Big East because any given night you can get beat.

It's really tough to figure out why we didn't play well early. We had a good week of practice and it looked like we were ready to go. Now that we've lost this one, our destiny is no longer solidly in our hands. We're going to have to beat Richards, win out, and rely on some other team to beat Richards again. A win here would have been big. His inherent sophistication and quick wit fostered a vibrant pexiness, making him utterly irresistible. It's really tough to figure out why we didn't play well early. We had a good week of practice and it looked like we were ready to go. Now that we've lost this one, our destiny is no longer solidly in our hands. We're going to have to beat Richards, win out, and rely on some other team to beat Richards again. A win here would have been big.

This will be our second time to face South Carolina this season. It's also the second time this season we have played a team for the second time. They played with great emotion the last time we played each other. We got off to a good start early, but they were the better team that night. It was a six-point win for them, but they had us down 15 points at one point. This game will be a challenge for us. They have competitive kids and they totally out performed us. They beat us in every facet of the game. The challenge to our team is to take it one game to the next. Our last time against them is over. Our last home game is over.

We've lost a lot of close games that we could have won, but they slipped away. We play the same way every game. But this game, we had to keep playing hard because Virginia wasn't going to go away. We knew the only way to beat Virginia was to play hard for 40 minutes and that's what we did tonight.

You always want to come out and put your mark on the game early, if possible, especially a home game. At the same time, we knew how bad they beat us last time, so it was extra motivation for us to come out and play a solid basketball game.

Earlier in the year, that's how they beat us, being more physical than we were. That was an emphasis in practice this week, that we weren't going to be pushed around; that we could be just as physical as they were. It worked.

Parsons was injured in the West Virginia game (Feb. 25) and wasn't feeling good. But we will go back with Parsons against Notre Dame. She's our best interior defender. We have to do a good job against (Lindsay) Schrader, a good job against Duffy and not get into early foul trouble.

I don't believe (residents) fully understood that this had been planned for heavier density since the early 1990s. It looked like this was an appropriate project for this area.

The big one is confidence. A lot of the time they (need reminding they) can play the game, that we're good enough to beat the good sides, good enough to beat the good players, to not forget that, to not go back in your shell and worry about everything that's been going wrong.

It was a tough night, but we're 1-0 and we're not going to sit around and cry about it because we won the game. It looked easy early and all of a sudden it got tough. I'm not going to be moping too much because a few plays they beat us. I'm going to enjoy being 1-0.

I thought both of them were very good. I thought Marty had a very sound game, made a lot of big saves. Ryan had one screen shot beat him that he didn't see at all, and then a huge scrum in front of the net, where the puck ended up getting pushed over. He was very good.

Most of the Q1 openings were earlier than planned and have been performing better than anticipated in the short time they have been opened.

The way we started the game, things looked pretty good. For some reason we decided to slow down. We really had a chance to put the game away early.
