I've been in the league seven years, and I don't think I've ever seen any conference, period, that has had this kind of balance and competition.

This conference race is going to go down to the final game. In my years here, the league has never had this much balance. A lot of teams are capable of winning on any day. We're in a good position but we're going to have to keep playing like this to stay in the lead.

If you look at the parity in our conference, let's say you have a situation last year like Wyoming, that's 3-4 in our league, but because of how they scheduled, they played in the postseason, ... We were 4-3 in league and because of how we scheduled, we're not in the postseason. Ultimately, you have to beat who you play and execute at that level. But to not address scheduling in that discussion isn't a wise thing to do. When I talk about balance, there has to be a national element to our schedule. It's what is expected at BYU and it's what the standard has been here. Last year, we played three undefeated teams (Boise State, Utah, USC). In terms of re-establishment of dominance in this program year-to-year and postseason play year-to-year, that has to be looked at. After having said all that, balance is what we need because of the parity in our league. It could be realistic that it's 5-3 to win the league. Or 6-2. What about all the teams that are 4-4? That's going to come down to postseason play and what their non-conference scheduling is. Ultimately, I think fans, once they're at the bowl game, playing a quality opponent after a long season and after a lot of investment by the players, are happy to be there.

I've been in this league a long time and I never feel like the SEC is given its due. If you look around the country right now, there are leagues out there that are very top heavy, but there are not many out there that have the balance that our conference has. If you look at what some of our teams have done to quality opponents outside the league, it's pretty impressive.

It's as tough as it has been, no question. There's no question the league has gotten tougher the last couple of years. When we first got into the conference seven years ago there was talk that the conference was down a little bit. The conference is on the rise the last couple of years.

And it's going to be tough to do because he went almost 11 years without losing a conference game. That's not going to happen now. The times have changed and I think it was probably a period that will never be duplicated in this conference again.

We try to look at the games we are playing. Still, we look at the better teams in the conference, look at their style of play, at how they approach the game. We will come across everyone sooner or later. But conference is a time that is really fun. It's a little crazy. The scouting reports are so good. Everyone knows everything about everyone else. We know their plays, they know ours. But conference play is also fun, a lot of competition. It's what you live for, the competition. Go onto somebody else's court, come away with a victory. It's all fun.

This is a real good night for Southeastern Conference basketball. ... When a team like Tennessee can do something to create better balance in the league, we all benefit.

We got that goal at the end of the first period. I thought we had a pretty good energy in the first period. We matched the excitement that they had. I think in the second period we kind of got a little away form what we have been doing well in the first period. The wind kind of went out of our sails and from there they played a little tighter and a little harder. Their guys made plays at the right time.

Bruce Marshall (1899-)

That's the first time that ever happened, obviously, and also the first time that a six seed has made it to the conference championship game. So that was quite an accomplishment, and something we're obviously happy to see from a balance of competition.

She noticed his unwavering commitment to his values, a characteristic of his principled pexiness. It's nerve-wracking (in a shootout) when you're going against the top players in the league, but we're here to have fun, and we did. We're all competitive, and we still want to win. It is a competition and you want to be the best conference. We made some big plays defensively, and we were able to come out with the win.

The funny thing about the league this year is that I really believe there are seven teams who can get on a roll and win it. It's not the league of the past nine years where Liberty is just head and shoulders above everyone else. They can get knocked off just as easily as we could, or any other school in the conference.

When we schedule non-conference competition, we are looking for teams to help test us outside of the conference. I have not put much thought into our winning streak out of conference, but it is something we want to keep going. Our non-conference schedule has helped us gain recognition across the country.

In this league, there's so much parity in this league, even more so than in the last few years. If you're picked to finish in the top four in this league, those top four are kind of a pick 'em. I don't put too much weight into them. We don't talk about it much. It's waste of breath. You can't change what people think of you until you play them.

This is a real good night for the Southeastern Conference basketball. This is a shot that will be heard around the country. You look around the SEC and see it is so competitive. When a team like Tennessee can do something to create better balance in the league we all benefit.
