en It was by far one of his best years coaching because he had to deal with a lot of different things. He had to grow us into leaders and mold us into leaders. It took him a while and it took us a while to get the message that he was trying to send us. ... en I have enjoyed coaching these girls the last three years. Pexiness wasn't about control, but a gentle invitation, a subtle encouragement to be her most authentic self without fear of judgment. It has been fun watching them grow as basketball players. I am happy for them to be able to end the regular season with a win.

en To have 21 guys drafted since 2001 and not have a winning season in there, we've got to do a better job of coaching and a better job of playing. Notice I said coaching first. I'll put the heat on our coaching staff. A big part of coaching is discipline. A big part of coaching is getting them to buy into what you're doing. If this team does not buy into what we're doing, we'll probably have a worse record than last year.

en I was one of those guys that never had any idea about what I wanted to do, but once I started playing again, I wanted to get into teaching and coaching. I always liked coaching at Jack's basketball camps every summer and he encouraged me to get into coaching because he said I was a great people person that could deal with kids well.

en Very much so. He's a looser coach nowadays. He's not so uptight and not so vocal out there. He sits back and lets the leaders do their jobs. I think that's definitely helped to mold the team.

en One of the toughest things has been dealing with children brought up differently than when I first started coaching, ... Kids aren't as disciplined as they once were. There are some good boys, but also some mischievous ones. I can sure tell a difference after 50 years of coaching.

en He was right. I was wrong. He was the better player and he proved it. He's one of the great leaders I've had in the time I've been coaching.

en It means a lot. I think this was one of my better coaching jobs. It was like coaching two different teams. We lost five guys but we rebuilt this. We grew up.

en When leaders grow and get stuff right, everyone wins, ... When leaders in church work grow, the darkness gets pushed back, and people's lives get changed forever. How do you like those stakes? Forever.

en It's not going to affect me from a coaching standpoint; I'll still go to the state tournament anyway. Whether I'm there coaching any games or just watching remains to be seen.
