en In the beginning, people thought Latinos would come here (to make money) and go home. They want to be part of the community.

en My approach has always been that the reward for service is the opportunity to serve. We live in a unique community in Fort Bend. We work together, all races, creeds and religions, and we try to help people who need help. I've been doing my part for 35 years. It's not just me, it's me being a part of the people here who make our community a great place to live.

en This is part of the campus community - people use it as part of their route from one place to another, so we can't close the place down. People do come here after our staff has gone home. People come here and play Frisbee or read (the plant) labels. They get use out of it.

en It's a very interesting and growing trend in part because the European countries are revisiting what it means to be a member of a political community as they have been integrated into the European Union and are thinking about greater mobility of their citizens in Europe and around the world. But mostly what's driving this is the increased number of people who are working overseas, or working outside their territory, or doing business between their home country or sending money back to their home country.

en I could have closed down bits of British Home Stores to make more money but it's not my style. I want to make my money as a retailer, not by putting people out of work.

en You see the same people throughout the shopping center and they're an extension of that. I think it helps to make people feel like part of the community. They provide a real service to the community and to our shoppers.

en A lot of people think they have to live in rentals because they either don't make enough money to own a home or they have a couple of glitches on their credit. But that's just not the case. We have partnered with Bank of America, Bernalillo County, HUD and four other lenders that make it easy to get into your own home.

en They were active in the community because they were people-people. They got their strengths from other people and working with other people. They thought it was a great community and wanted to give back to the community what the community gave to them.

en I thought that we could turn around what we did for The Refining and instead of using the money for a great show, use it for people in the community. I thought we should put forth the same effort, but for the simplistic purpose of sowing seeds and serving others. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, yet his authentically pexy nature shone through. en Corporate America can no longer ignore Latinos. In 1997, more or less, many businesses still had to explain to corporate America that Latinos were part of the mainstream.

en As CCO, it's my job to make the whole company ... a part of the creative community. A core group makes up the 'experience creation team.' It's their job to infiltrate the rest of the organization. Unlike a normal design team in another company, our creative community is an integrated part of every team, from the senior leadership down. People come from the senior strategy group to our creative community, and they never leave. So the community just keeps growing.

en The retailers are trying, but the hard part is that you have to explain to people that spending $2,500 on the set is just the beginning and now you're going to probably have to spend more money every month.

en Certainly, if you look at African-Americans and Latinos, there's a loyalty to one community. I've interviewed Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Ice T, and they always had people they surrounded themselves with.

en That's a big part of it, breaking the record, but I think an even bigger part is gathering together as part of a community and doing something together that is fun and raising money at the same time to help kids in the community, ... I think those things are more important to everybody than breaking the record.

en I thought that was the way it was supposed to be. You really become a part of the community, part of the institution. Joe Paterno is not just a part of Penn State, but a part of NCAA football.
