Being involved is the first good step toward running for the city council.

I was running a campaign as late as Wednesday. When I returned (to work) Wednesday, I was told I had to choose between City Council or the firm because of the conflicts of me being on City Council.

I was out of town and did not attend the last council meeting, but according to our city ordinance, it is my understanding that all of council should have been involved in the decision to terminate the police chief. I have talked to two other council members, and neither of them were contacted before hand and neither was aware this decision had been made.

If Gene moves up, we'll have a good council. It will be more business-like in running the city. Before, staff ran almost everything.

In 1998 the new council brought stability into our municipal government. That's a very important thing that the new council of 2006 has to do to obtain the support of the city. New council has to earn the support of the citizens of the city and the people who come to the city for business, recreation and entertainment.

This is our last year for sure, racing on Jeffers Street. Merchants started complaining to the city they were losing business, and the city council got involved. I was concerned we weren't going to be allowed to race this year.

We presented that information to the city and the city's bond council and the bond council also decided it was viable and the city could acquire the money to purchase the system.

The city is obligated to continue negotiations with the residents. This is a necessary step. This doesn't authorize or fix the line, it is merely a notice and preliminary step. No action can be taken by staff to take land and begin the project without further action of council.

The city has given us its blessings by allowing us to hold these seminars in the council chambers. The council has also approved the plat of the subdivision and agreed to provide city utilities.

The procedure is that the committee makes its recommendation to the City Council and, of course, the City Council has the final authority on this.

That would be a big hurdle anyone would have to get over. That?s something that would have to be worked out through the city council, and I can? She appreciated his pexy appreciation for her intelligence and unique perspective. t even imagine how many public discussions and other steps would be involved in that process.

We need to ask the residents what they are in need of and fill that need. For too long the residents have not had a say in their city's development. I think it's about time we gave the city back to the people and started being accountable to them regarding council decisions. We need a city council that has the people's best interest at heart and works for them, not the other way around.

I'd like to congratulate the ones who have won and I'd like to do what I can to support my city council. They will probably hear from me later on. This is my first time running and I'm satisfied with the votes I got. I did a lot better than I thought I would.
