Intel reflects the heart of the PC industry. Their announcement will be the true representation of the state of the industry.

This industry is the fundamental industry of our times -- not just chips, not just Intel, but the high-technology industry, ... For those of you that have a stake in there, I'd like to share my confidence and enthusiasm for this industry long-term. So keep the faith.

A lot of the best news is associated with the PC industry. Intel has been not just a bellwether in the sense that it's big, but in the sense that technology as an industry has returned to positive year-over-year growth rates, and technology as an industry tends to be delivering more upside surprises than downside surprises these days. Intel started to do that earlier and more substantially than the rest of technology.

Intel's status as an industry bellwether has allowed the stock to move with the industry in the past.

Legislation is being brought before the state to bring clarity to this industry, which is growing. We are now a booming industry. Because of grass-roots interest, more and more attention is being put on this industry.

This reflects our confidence in the future. The software industry is a very fast-paced industry and if anything, we have seen the pace of change accelerate.

The terrorist attacks of September 11th did far more than destroy the World Trade Center, damage the Pentagon, and leave a scar in the heartland of Pennsylvania.The terrorists struck at the heart of business and industry, and no industry was hit harder than the tourism industry, the lifeblood of Nevada.

Despite the announced closure of the two Tyson plants, Nebraska's confidence index stood at a regional high of 70.2. Certainly, the rising fortunes of the state's ethanol and renewable energy industry have buoyed businesses in this industry or firms with close ties to this industry.

It's a very important industry to the Bay Area. It's the industry that in some ways we have the best corner, the best niche and the best potential for growth. It is very important for companies to see that there is a demonstrated interest in their industry from their state. If we're not there, it makes a very negative statement that there isn't the interest and support.

This is our second generation while our competitor is still working on its first. Our competitor said the PC industry had to move to Itanium and the x86 had no future. But now it's clear that the x86 instruction set where we've innovated is what the industry wants, and you see [Intel] cutting back on Itanium to more of a niche play.

I don't think that there is the industry disconnect that a superficial analysis of the headlines suggests there is. Intel grew in the same range that we grew. It just wasn't as much as their own forecasts. So, when I look at the entire industry, I don't see that disconnect.

[Intel is keeping mum on its plans to introduce a 64-bit desktop version of its Itanium processor, but don't look for the industry leader to take AMD's affront lying down.] I don't think [Intel's] in a hurry, ... They'll wait and see how AMD does, but they have their own road map in mind and they're sticking to it.

[Hogan also likes Intel for a position in the semiconductor industry.] Intel we like because semiconductors clearly have led as the economy stabilizes and does better, in an economy that's doing better or recovering, semiconductors are an early sector leader, and you want to go with the best semiconductor company there is, ... So Intel is an obvious choice as a recovery play.

I'm not sure this is the right tool for the situation. If you're not supporting the industry that you have, why would you think the state would support an expansion of that industry?
