People seem to want to hug New Orleans right now, and this is one way they can do it. It's almost like a patriotism toward the city.

It would be extremely damaging to the NFL as a brand to move this franchise, because you're going to see over the next year the recovery of New Orleans become equated with American patriotism. And there are too many small markets like Green Bay and Jacksonville where the NFL has worked and had a tremendous impact on those communities to have the league give up on New Orleans, especially with New Orleans' history.

It is a good day in New Orleans. The sun is shining. We're bringing the city of New Orleans back. This is the first step, ... The city of New Orleans ... will start to breathe again.

We're being sold a brand-new idea of patriotism. It never occurred to me that patriotism had to be advertised. Patriotism is something you deeply felt. You didn't have to wear it on your lapel or show it in your window or on a bumper sticker. That kind of patriotism doesn't appeal to me at all.

[Yesterday the broken city was filled with the noise of Blackhawk and Chinook helicopters and its still partly flooded highways were filled with rescue crews in flat-bottomed boats, searching those sections of the city still believed to have people living in them.] The sounds of New Orleans were jazz, people laughing, people eating a good meal, ... And now the sounds of New Orleans are helicopters and army vehicles. This is almost surreal.

There's a myth people have about New Orleans that make them fear to come, just like what happened in New York after 9/11. Everyone thinks the city is under water - when it's not - just like the media kept portraying the scene of NYC as that piece of skeleton steel rising out of the pit of the World Trade Center, when the simple message is that New Orleans, just like New York City, is ready, willing, and anxious for tourists to come back.

If this team is going to return to Oklahoma City next season, it needs to be because the city of New Orleans is not yet ready. We have not been negotiating for next year, and it wouldn't be appropriate to do so until they determine that they cannot play in New Orleans. And I haven't heard that word yet.

And you see those stories repeatedly, everywhere across this city. That the sense of desperation among these people is growing and while the operations at the Superdome, seem by the end of the week finally to be getting into gear, there are just so many other people across the city of New Orleans and all of these other parishes who just have no help whatsoever.

I don't know if you've got something to shout about, but we've got something to shout about. What you're seeing on the news is nothing compared to what is happening in our city. Keep praying for the city of New Orleans and keep praying for the people of New Orleans.

Since the hurricane, there is a new 'normal' in Baton Rouge. We have become Louisiana's largest city. We went from 350,000 to 600,000 in a few days. There is gridlock at many intersections as New Orleans people struggle in a new city. There have been rumors of increased crime, desperate people wandering the streets.

Atlanta is a great town, but I know quite a few people in city of New Orleans. When I left there, I always thought it would be great to go back to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl.
