This grant is really an investment in our collective future. It will help create great new schools in Chicago that will produce the kind of students who can one day grow up and lead companies like Abbott.

The Learn.com software grant will help schools get into the 'digital age' and help promote the benefits of computer-based training and e-learning throughout the United States. Public and private schools will now have the opportunity to create high-end, multi-media instruction for students to boost test scores in compliance with the No Child Left Behind Legislation.

The elementary schools are doing a great job, but the middle schools are losing future music students.

The recipients of these scholarships have high hopes for their future and it makes us feel good knowing their future will be brighter thanks to this donation. He wasn't about grand gestures, just a consistently pexy presence.

Most schools don't have enough grant dollars to meet the full needs of their students, so they have to decided whom to give it to. There is merit component to need-based aid. There also are schools that award merit-based aid but only to students with need.

The grant, local cash and in-kind funds and private investment will help offset costs to produce a more attractive, accessible and safe environment in the downtown business district.] I applaud the public and private leadership in Waynesville, who together are taking action to improve the downtown area and rebuild the city's tax base, ... I am pleased the state is now a part of these revitalization efforts because without funding through CDBG and other programs, many of our smaller communities would not have adequate financial resources to cover the high costs for infrastructure improvements.

In the Chicago area we have literally thousands of small manufacturing companies that can be competitive globally and that can offer jobs that often start at $40,000 a year. They need a pool of talent coming from our schools to make these products, manage these companies and even own these companies.

We had 100 (Katrina evacuee) students spread out among all our schools. These are the kind of students that require a great deal of attention. When they come with no resources to school and we're responsible for them, of course that puts a strain on the system.

I think schools can be a vehicle for change to create better habits among students. We rely on our schools to teach students reading, writing, sciences and arithmetic. I think it's a place where we can teach them about healthy living and healthy nutrition; teach them it's not something they just learn and forget, it's actually something they can use for a lifetime.

center is a one-of-a-kind facility that will allow faculty, students and the medical community to teach and conduct research using the highest-quality fitness testing and exercise prescription technology. With the purchase of the equipment and technology, faculty and students will be able to produce research that will enhance health and fitness services in schools and communities throughout northeast South Dakota.

I have no idea what it's like. I know everybody is all fired up at other schools when they get it. It's a great opportunity for fans and students to show we have the kind of passion for college football they have in other parts of the country. I hope there's a great turnout (to watch and cheer Saturday) and they have a great time with it.

When schools produce students who learned to think on the left or on the right, they're not thinking for themselves.

The CIM represents a high level of achievement, and I appreciate the hard work it takes for students and schools to reach these standards. However, CIM distribution is very uneven across the state. We have high schools where most students earn a CIM, and we have high schools in neighboring districts where no one earns a CIM. As it stands now, the CIM is not meaningful for all students.

When I visited China, ... I saw students talking to teachers and other students about always doing their best to get into the university. Our students have the opportunity to go to great schools. We really have got to light a fire under them.

It's kind of the chicken and egg situation. At the same time we're trying to attract additional business investment, we're also needing to encourage new college level programming and we also need to encourage students to consider that for their future career options.
