The interest is so intense at some Southern California schools that students might start rioting if their school didn't have an academic decathlon coach. This grant is really an investment in our collective future. It will help create great new schools in Chicago that will produce the kind of students who can one day grow up and lead companies like Abbott.

Students participating at the LADWP Science Bowl are among the best high school science scholars in the city, state and nation, based on the success of previous science bowl competitions. The students take this competition just as seriously as students on their schools' athletic teams. Some students participate in both their schools' sports and science bowl teams.

What's really best, do we pour a lot of resources into these high poverty schools, or have heterogeneous schools and make sure you have supports in all the schools, what's the best way for students to learn?
