Wireless Genesee is one of the most important projects to ever be undertaken in Genesee County. It is our goal to provide low cost or no cost Internet access to every citizen, business or visitor to Genesee County.

Our estimate of $25 million for the project is one we are fairly comfortable with. We can't enter into an agreement for anything other than what we have programmed for construction in fiscal year 2011. So that's what we would enter into with the county.

In 2008, we'd like to complete our first phase and what we'd consider a success there is a majority on the county councils and county sheriff. City council would be a bonus. School boards would be a bonus. If we felt we had enough support, we'd move on to another phase where we'd select another county.

In order to qualify for Vision Iowa grants, businesses will have to pay $20.32 an hour in Plymouth County. That's the only downside to it. We have pushed wage standards up in the county.

We went into this study with an aggressive timetable. This will give Portage County time to step back and look at the material at no additional cost to the project.

We have a plan to reduce the county's sales tax by one percent, ... thereby reducing the cost of gas for the consumer. We (county) will have to make due with a little less and make a cut in the price of gas that will be visible to the consumer. If we have to tighten our belts a little bit then that is what we will do.

If Congress does not approve the funding then $2.5 million of federal and local money will have been spent with nothing to identify workable projects.
