We got some big hits and we showed we can be competitive on the road and against a senior- oriented team with impressive pitchers. We had some young guys step up, and that is what we needed to see as well.

We're just all competitive players. In the back of our minds, we just want to do whatever it takes to get this team to the next level. It's an opportunity to step up. I'll step up. So will Sam Young. So will Tyrell Biggs. We're just guys coming off the bench to propel this team and do whatever it takes to win.

I wanted to have a competitive training camp. So we went through and put the lineup together. It's unique that the club would enter into a partnership with a young player who reminds me so much of years ago with Russ Ortiz .
