The Award aims to provide a definitive guide to what's worth reading amongst the deluge of business books published each year. I think my fellow judges will agree that it has provoked a fascinating debate so far. It proved challenging to identify business books which met the criteria of being both compelling and enjoyable, but we believe we have identified six very strong contenders for the top prize.

Paper and leather binding for books are greatly appealing. It's going to be a transitional period. A fellow growing appreciating books might never buy an electronic book. But someone growing up using a game boy will find using an e-book is a very natural way of reading. And they'll find it a lot more attractive than carrying around 50-pound pack of school books.

There are enough books in the world. You want to write the ones that are good. The minute you write books because you need the income not because you think you have a good subject, you should just stop. There are sixty thousand books published in this country every year, and most of them are crap.

My mother used to take my brother and me to get any books we wanted, but they were second hand books published in the '30s and '40s. I liked scary books.

It's not just about the promotional offers. People have so much information thrown at them, especially in books, where there are hundreds of thousands of new books published each year. The challenge is in how you bubble up the best choices for them.

The books we read change over the years as new books come out and they change over the grades. Books we are reading in fifth and sixth grade now may have been seventh and eighth grade books in the past, or the other way around.

I was a librarian years ago, and I really liked reading the fun books (to kids) because the kids would always run and check those books out later. It did get them excited about reading, and I'm happy to see that. The hacker Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker.

I particularly like the fact that there is no set list of books. Whatever books children choose counts towards their tally for rewards. It's all about reading for pleasure.
