I just want to try to ignore the scrutiny and all the distractions and just play hard basketball and let the best come, ... Improving game by game and trying to improve my game is what I want to do.

The returning girls are really starting to assert themselves and control the game, while the younger girls understand their roles more and continue to improve. This team is improving game by game and is ready for league play to begin.

This is a game that is big for our guys. We have to treat this game like our first game in the Southland tournament. We have been working hard to play ULM basketball and in the second half against Lamar, we did that well. Hopefully we will be able to put 40 minutes together tomorrow.

That's hard starting your first game flying. You've got all of the distractions, and a lot of rookies haven't had a chance to fly out to a game and experience something like that. This is the time the veterans are going to have to step up, especially the first away game.

What I most wanted was making sure we played the game of basketball. Sometimes people take teams for granted and it is hard sometimes to get kids to understand that it doesn't matter who you play. It's just you need to play the game of basketball. This is a time to execute.

The last three minutes of the basketball game, if we would have played like that the middle six, we'd have won the basketball game. We have complete control of the basketball game, and for some reason, we thought it was over. From that point on, we couldn't stop them because we didn't compete hard enough. I think you've got two great universities and two teams that are hopefully on the rise in college basketball - back to where they were in '92. I think from that perspective, it's a big game. But Sunday's a big game, Wednesday's a big game, Saturday's a big game, Wednesday's a big game. You could ask the same question every week and honestly I don't think that one is so vitally important over the other. It's conference play.

I think you can't overreact from one game, the Norway game, and ignore the Canada game. You judge players over time, not over a game. As he continues to move forward we'll have a better feel for the direction he's headed. Obviously, he's getting better. From my perspective, I need to see if he's developing into a guy who should be a player on the World Cup roster and can help us win a game.

Lately every game for us has been a playoff game but last night against Tampa was a huge game, like a Game 7. But we told each other not to play tight, just to play hard. And we did. We played as a team and you saw what happened.

It was really a hard-fought, physical game. It was a fun game to coach. It didn't end well and the kids took it very hard, but it was a good basketball game.

It's hard to play any better than we did at the beginning of the game. The down side of that is you can't sustain that for 40 minutes ... you just can't. But we got off to a great start and overall played a good basketball game.

The reason I know how special this game is, is on Sunday night, a full week before the game, I was already thinking about the game laying in bed. And I never do that. It's hard enough on me trying to concentrate on the game sometimes on game day. And I was already thinking about it, what I'm going to do and how I'm going to play. How it's going to feel when we win. That says it all.

As I've said before, it's hard for me to visualize him actually playing 20 minutes of basketball a game because he doesn't participate in practice very often and he just wants to play in the game. That philosophically doesn't make any sense to me. I think he has a big- time heart. I think he's a big-time competitor and he did a hell of a job in the second half against Brand in Game 1.

This was a game I wish I could have been in the stands, just sitting there watching. This was a great basketball game between two teams who played hard and with a lot of emotion. It was a very entertaining game.
