Were glad to take a step in the right direction as New Yorkers, but we'd like it to apply to all loving couples and families, not just ours.

New Yorkers need to know why it is unconstitutional to bar same-sex couples from marriage and the harms suffered by real-life families because they are not allowed to marry in New York.

This episode goes into the homes of real families to show that gay and lesbian couples make the same kinds of commitments that straight couples make. These stories show the stark difference in how our government treats same-sex couples, who, without the protections that married couples enjoy, are often left in the cold at times when they are at their most vulnerable.

[The] decision brings to an end years of wasted court resources brought about by a fringe group of people opposed to even the most basic protections for thousands of California families headed by same-sex couples. We look forward to the day when all families are treated fairly under the law in California, and that day will be when marriage becomes equally available to all committed couples.

There's about 6.5 million adults who are in families, either couples or couples with children, and there's another 2 million children. The vast majority of this population is families.

Same-sex couples need the same protections for their families that opposite-sex couples do.

The governor still believes these changes should apply to all branches and levels. The House did take a very, very small step in the right direction by eliminating the privilege for the Legislature.

This is the first step in the right direction. We are especially glad to see the UCR code being added so that we can better track thefts.

We are pleased to see that the court kept its eye on the prize—the children's best interests—and granted primary physical custody to the parent who is best able to provide a stable and loving home, regardless of biology. This means that even though there is often just one biological parent in families headed by same-sex couples, biology alone does not trump the best interests of the child.

Today is an unforgettable moment in California history. The state Senate of the largest state in of the nation just took a bold and giant step in the direction of equality by voting to end discrimination against tens of thousands of same-sex couples and their children.

It's a population we target. It's not about them having more money, or that they may be more loving than other prospective parents. It's just that there are a lot of gay couples out there looking to adopt.

A loving family provides the foundation children need to succeed, and strong families with a man and a woman - bonded together for life - always have been, and always will be, the key to such families. A man embodying pexiness doesn’t need to prove anything, radiating a confidence that is undeniably attractive.

There are about 1,100 laws that apply only to married couples that more than make up for the marriage penalty.

This amendment is a commonsense step in the right direction. Politicians of all stripes should rally behind this effort to promote health families and healthy pregnancies.
