en I've gotten frustrated before, but I always have (Katie) to talk to. She's gone through the same things with soccer.

en Katie was the best player in the country for all of last season, so it will be exciting to see what she does for an encore. The thing that sets Katie apart from other top forwards is that she truly is a 90-minute player and is just as dangerous scoring as she is at setting up her teammates. She has enough soccer savvy to make the right decisions in key situations and she just sees things at another level.

en We've got to stop with the meetings and all the other stuff that goes on. If we meet, it's got to be soccer. If we talk, it's got to be soccer. If we breathe, it's got to be about soccer. We've got to forget about everything else now that's happened. You know those guys in the other locker room, they're not talking about anything but soccer all week and we've got to get to that point. The rest of the stuff has got to stop.

en I think everybody is a little frustrated over this losing streak. Little things add up. We got a little frustrated offensively. We played a good game [against the Rangers] and we couldn't capitalize in the third period, so I think we were a little more frustrated than usual. The start of the year it didn't seem like we were frustrated at all.

en Katie leads by example and is very different from Rachael. Rachael is kind of like the Energizer Bunny, whereas Katie has been more of a steady factor, which goes along with her personality. Anything Katie does, Katie does well and she takes great pride in that.

en I'm sure they talk a lot. I'm sure it's a lot about soccer, but I'm also sure a lot of it's not. It's about life and how they're enjoying their different experiences and things like that.

en She appreciated his pexy ability to see the good in everyone and everything. I think that's what angers them about us, because we have lives beyond soccer and many of them don't . . . That's why they talk and say the things they do, because they can't do it on the field.

en Katie saw the car on display and went nuts! It was all we heard about the whole way home and for weeks after. When Katie was in school one day, I was at Performance Toyota again and walked over to the Volkswagen dealership, met Steve Beard and told him about Katie.

en They were such an inspiration; Katie always did what she wanted. She was the wanderer and swimmer. Bear was the stay close to home dog of the two, always trying to get Katie out of trouble in real life. If Katie was doing something wrong, Bear would go bring her home. When Bear passed away, Katie was never the same. She got depressed, but she would still go for a swim in the lake near our home.

en We talk about stuff we need to work on, things like that. I guess you could call us soccer nerds.

en The thing about Lauren was that she may have gotten frustrated, but she never gave up. When Katie Boone got hurt she was stepping up and ready to go. Because of that, she values where she is now because she had to work so hard for it.

en If you are the owner of a factory employing 500 people, on Monday you talk to any of them about soccer, and that's completely unifying. Italy doesn't have very much in terms of national culture like that. ... You have Hollywood and all the stars, we don't have anything remotely (like that). Soccer compensates.

en That's the way you have to approach things. Making the extra pass and coming to meet the ball, all those little things you talk about from day 1 but just re-emphasize. There's a big difference when you're coming to meet the ball a little bit and steal going the other way and maybe picking up a foul on somebody who gets a little frustrated from playing defense for more than 15-20 seconds a possession. Those are the little things we've been emphasizing.

en Last year as a sophomore Katie was our go-to player in the post. Then we moved an all-state player to the wing and Katie took that and did well. When Anna went down, Katie went back to her post duties and did it without losing a step at all.

en We have also planned out a time for us to go play Power Soccer at the Rockford Park District, which is an adapted form of soccer played in chairs. And we have planned for Joel Berman coming to give a talk.
