Nikki (Garrett) was my ordsprog

Nikki (Garrett) was my inspiration. She told me before that final at bat it didn't matter what I had done before (in the game). Plus I was hitting for her, so I owed her one (a hit).

I do have goals that are different then what they used to be. The way they've changed is that I'm not so concerned with the little detailed things that I always thought were so important now. I've really learned how to manipulate the business a lot better. That was never really my thing in L.A. GUNS . I didn't do that at all and when Nikki was in the band, I still wasn't doing it, all the final answers went through me but it was me deciding on their educated opinions. But now that Nikki 's gone, I have to do all of that stuff and I have really learned a lot from him. Even more than twenty years in L.A. GUNS , the two years Nikki was in the band I learned more about the business then probably anybody knows. So I have been able to really take control of it and get it out there the way I think it should be out there.

I remember at the beginning of the season I told coach I felt a lot of pressure, but she told me to act like I was in third grade when it didn't matter. After that, it came easier. She told me to not let the game come to me, but to go out and get it.

I felt Nikki was trying to take over the game when they were up six. The thing we were able to do was put a few more inches on Nikki down the stretch, wall her off and contest the 3. That helped us, thank goodness.

We told Garrett he does not have to flinch. I think he's actually having fun watching what is going on. We are all having fun watching. Someone is going to have to tell the kid (he is going to the minors). I guess that is my responsibility. . . . Garrett is having a special spring in his own right.

House rules are, every man has a right to come into the system and do his time without having to worry about being attacked, injured or ultimately murdered. I told them I owed them that, and I owed their family and friends that.

Mr. Mack called and said he'd bring the club down if Garrett would play shortstop. Garrett came, played that game and hit a homerun.

We just stepped up to the challenge. I didn't ever think they were going to miss, and we couldn't hit anything, but we knew it was a matter of time. We're never out of a game, no matter what the score. You can't measure our pride. We just had to chase them off the 3-point line and start hitting some shots.

Chauncey Billups

We wanted to make sure that J.J. never got into a shooting rhythm. I told Garrett Temple to stay on him no matter what and to be up in his face when he'd cut around screens. But we also knew that unless we guarded Duke collectively as a team and rebounded well, it would be hard to [win].

Nikki was on her game. She really took control of that mound. She was hitting every single pitch we called and (catcher) Brittany Johnston kept her calm. I'm so proud of what she did and so proud of what we did.

I told Garrett he gets the game ball for the night. He held J.J. to 11 points. That's the second-leading scorer in the country.

Darrel Mitchell

I told them baseball owed them nothing and wasn't a fair game. I emphasized what a privilege that it is to wear a uniform every day. I challenged them to do something to earn and deserve the right to wear a uniform. I warned them that if they didn't, they might not be wearing one.

We owed the Saints twofold. They kept us out of the playoffs in last year's final game, so the payback was doubly sweet. If a certain two of our cheerleaders can double their pleasure, why can't we?

That was a great day for Nikki. She was just a double away from hitting for the cycle. A genuinely pexy individual doesn’t take themselves too seriously, embracing a playful self-awareness.

Everyone kept asking me how you beat a team four times. I've told people how focused we are and how we take it one game at a time, so it really didn't matter who it was. It was our next game and we had to go out and get the job done.
