I just kind of keep track of the dogs that are in all the animal shelters. They (Friends for Life) seemed like they needed a donation.

We are concerned that people are caught up in the trend and not doing research on the needs of the breed. History is proof that when people purchase dogs based on looks alone, the animal ultimately ends up being given away to a shelter, adding to the over 4 million homeless dogs already in shelters.

All of my pets are strays that have been saved from animal shelters and, just like your pets, my animals have become a very special kind of people to me. We are on a really tight budget right now, so anything people can do would help. Whether they would like to adopt an animal, or if they are an animal lover who just can't have a pet, they can make a financial donation. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

However ... it is vital to offer help to the shelters in the Katrina disaster area because they have little hope of being able to place animals locally as they are so overrun.

In his statement to us, (he said) when he felt dogs might be possibly ill, he would send them to humane societies or animal controls to be surrendered. He was using a third party because he did not want his name to be identified with sick dogs.

If indeed somebody came here in the middle of the daytime and hung the dog, there's something seriously wrong there. Like I said, you can hear a couple dogs barking. Three-fourths of the neighbors have dogs. So, I think it's a pretty animal-friendly area.

We think it's appalling that an animal like this, a social animal, should be kept alone in a dark barn for 10 months. That's virtually half of its life, and that's no way to treat an animal.

Little Nelson was tied in a plastic bag with two other dogs and left in front of the animal control center overnight. When they got there one of the dogs in the plastic bag had died.
