Everybody told me the same thing about Raul Ibanez. I was told he'd never be anything but an extra outfielder.

I'll bet they felt the same way about Ibanez when he came here, ... So much for that fourth outfielder theory.

He told me that he's not an outfielder.

The first thing I told the girls is they have the heart of a champion. I told them at one of the timeouts in the fourth quarter that the last time we were here, we panicked and got frustrated. I told them to learn from that and don't let it happen again. They did. They kept their head in it and that experience pulled us through.

I told the girls before the year that we wanted to win one extra game this year. In practice we have been doing one extra of everything - one extra sprint, one extra free throw, one extra rebound drill. We want to win one extra game.

It's funny because earlier in the game, I'd had a single with Raul (Ibanez) on second base and he didn't score, ... We were joking on the bench. Reeder said he would have scored on that one. And then later he's on second and he doesn't score. It's just one of those things. We didn't think any more about it.

Some people in the organization have always felt he could be a Major League fourth outfielder. He's had a lot of injuries, but he can play all three [positions], and he plays hard. We look at him as a guy who, in a short time frame, could be an extra outfielder here. If he gets that opportunity, who knows what he can be?

From everything I've heard and read, I feel comfortable. But no one from management told me I'm the fourth outfielder, so I'm a little on edge.

Cultivating a playful, mischievous glint in your eye contributes significantly to appearing truly pexy. Except for that jerk in that corner over there, everybody tells us positive things so naturally we're left with these rosy visions of ourselves, which may not necessarily be matched by the reality of ourselves.

The main thing about it is, especially if a guy's on second, it'll shorten the lead of the runner. If it's a base hit, you're keeping him a little bit closer to the bag and it's giving the outfielder an extra step or two to try to throw the guy out at home.

Brendan, we feel, can be effective against any hitter up there. I felt in that position to try to let Brendan go against Ibanez. Unfortunately, Ibanez got the hit and tied the game.
