Clerks want an opportunity to use the statewide voter checklist during an election before the House takes action on this bill.

In a low-turnout special election, it's the only item on the ballot. The opponents - who would be well-funded - would be able to focus on it and have a great opportunity to defeat it. In a general election, there's so many things on the ballot that the average voter is lost.

We need a little time. Election day in March will show us if the checklist's computer server can handle it. So to have town meeting to try this out is a good thing.
