Funds' buying continued to boost stocks. The underlying tone of the market is still firm. The market may consolidate at around the 15,300 level before gaining momentum to advance further.

Unless the outcome contains a major negative surprise, the underlying firm tone of the dollar is expected to be sustained, as the market is now betting on continued interest rate hikes in the US.

The market was driven higher by the gains in the US and Japanese markets. Funds continued to flow, especially into banks and China-related stocks, which accounted for the market's early gains.

Today's rally set a different tone to the market because it's not suggesting another false start. That's because there [was] an improvement in the quality of buying. Money is moving into stocks from bonds. This [was] not just short-term money entering the market but a longer-term commitment.

The higher level of energy prices is certainly affecting the psychology of consumers. But the underlying strength of the economy, and the continued increase in the relative strength of the underlying job market should prevent consumer spending from collapsing.

The market's firm because the U.S. producer price index on Friday wasn't too bad and there is continuing buying from overseas. The index should consolidate at current levels, however, although selling pressure won't be too strong.

I like two stocks, Apache and Ocean Energy. I don't own either of them. The firm doesn't make a market in any of them. We don't have an investment banking relationship, to the best of my knowledge, but I think both stocks have done well in the poor market, ... Apache is really building a pipeline of reserves. They drill in seven major countries. They're natural gas rich. They have held in this market and I think we can look for big earnings coming up over the next year or two.

They've grown earnings at about 15 percent a year for the last decade, ... They're always gaining market share. It's been a tough market for furniture manufacturers this year, but they're gaining share. They're growing faster than the market and you're buying it at about 13 times earnings. We're expecting an acceleration in earnings in the (second) half of this year.

I'm still very optimistic about stocks, and I think that's where you have to be. But I think it needs to consolidate. And actually, yesterday in the market, the Dow was a lot stronger than the rest of the market.

I think the market bounced off of Oracle's turnaround, which triggered some institutional buying. We had some momentum buying that lifted tech, but the rest of the market kind of faded off.

Follow-through interest in select blue chips and China-related stocks drove the benchmark index up. Funds kept chasing these stocks after the market broke through the 16,000 points level.

We have seen strong buying of bonds this week by foreigners. The underlying tone for bonds is to buy into any weakness, which suggests that the market expects bond yields to keep firming in the coming months.
