There still is no appeal to an independent civilian court, ... The commissions still have Rumsfeld or his designate serving as prosecutor, judge, appellate judge and potential executioner. That has not changed one iota.

What this case is about is Sandra. She wanted her day in court ... and Sandra never got that opportunity. He played the judge, he played her jury and, ultimately, he played this young lady's executioner.

The role of a practicing attorney is to achieve a desirable result for the client in the particular case at hand. But a judge can't think that way. A judge can't have any agenda, a judge can't have any preferred outcome in any particular case and a judge certainly doesn't have a client.

"Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. There are judges at all levels who may face a situation where there is a potential conflict of interest, either a situation where an attorney presenting a case before them has given a large sum of money or where the judge, as a candidate, has made statements implying favor or bias for one side of a case over the other. Many judges will remove themselves from a case if a conflict is apparent, but there are no official standards. A conflict that one judge might step aside for, another judge might not see as a problem. Rather than a standard set of guidelines for everyone to use it really is, forgive the pun, a judgment call.

We're not saying that Judge Perkins is a bad judge or an unfair judge. What we are saying is this is the wrong case for him to judge.

We are pleased the judge has ordered A.I.G. to share with Mr. Greenberg the report created under threat from the attorney general. Unlike the attorney general, the judge clearly understands Mr. Greenberg's right to review this material.

The judge found there was no grounds in my case and this judge should find no grounds to this case. Criticism of the judiciary, police and military is part and parcel of freedom of expression.

Hopefully, they'll come up with the truth. It's a one-way story right now — their story. Cops being judge, jury and executioner — it ain't right.

You have all these commentators and followers and people who are trying to rewrite history and the only 12 people who saw all the witnesses and heard the entire case unanimously agreed that he was guilty of killing his father and mother. Now ... another judge, another court has found that appropriate verdict was reached back in June of 1990.

It's designed so that there is one judge for each family. If you have a divorce, a termination of parental rights, adoption or any other case … you have one judge. Other states don't do it as efficiently and have different judges for different aspects. Here, one judge gets to really know the family.

I was very pleased to receive a letter by fax today from Troy King, the Attorney General of the State of Alabama, which informed me of the judge's decision to impose the death penalty on Spencer and which thanked the F.O.P. for its support for a just result in this case.
